Yep, in nearly 6 1/2 years, we have managed to stay out of the ER (for our children anyway). I was working on dinner and helping T with something at the computer. E had been in my arms, but when she saw B getting out a toy in the playroom, she wanted down to play, so I let her go and felt relief to work with both arms free. Just minutes later, I heard a sharp, alarm cry from E. I dashed into the playroom (just a few feet away from where I was working) and E was coming towards me to be comforted. I asked B what was wrong and she said she thought E had swallowed a peg. These cylindrical pegs are 2 1/2 inches long, solid plastic, 1/2 inch diameter on one end and inch on the other end. DH and I had discussed it before that we didn't think she could manage to swallow one but since B said she had seen one in E's mouth and E had sharply cried out to me (very unusual) I felt we had to be certain all was okay. I called 911 and was explaining the situation to them and quickly whispered to T to email Papa that I had called 911. He went and composed an email to DH with the subject of "911" which DH said later he had just been about to step away from his computer for several minutes but when he got that email with the most important subject, he read it and dashed home. When he got here, four EMTs were waiting with us in the foyer. E was acting fine at this point but we couldn't be sure what she had done. When we asked her if she swallowed one, she answered "yessss" but this is her standard response for everything. We decided to take her to the ER ourselves and the kind gentlemen left. They were a calming presence and talked so kindly with the children, even gave them stress toys to keep. At this time, Grandma arrived and we took off shortly after for the ER. It wasn't a horrible wait and they did do an X-ray in which we saw nothing of concern in her little body. You realize how SMALL they are, these little babies entrusted to us, when you see their little skeleton on the screen.(( But, she is fine, all is well. I just wanted to share with you all our little scare. Please pray for us to keep her, and all of them!! safe.

Joyous, I want to cover my ears and sing Lalalalalala at you, but I know I can't. This child, sigh, of course, she does have more things available to her...like a stool in the kitchen. She has learned she can carry that wherever she wants to be higher. Yikes!! lol I told the kids today, before she even scared us with the peg incident, that we would be putting the stool in the kitchen away. T doesn't even need it anymore to wash hands at the kitchen sink and B can go in the bathroom (that still has a stool but it is lower) to wash hands. E just does what she wants, when she wants. I told dh she's definitely more independent, take charge kinda gal, but man!! Not even two??? lol
Yes, we will pray for y'all, too.

Hugs to you and your LO!
Our favorite ER-type story (I took her to the pediatric Urgicare) was when Darby was 4yo and she put Polly Pocket shoes up her nose so she couldn't smell my yucky dinner (hamburgers.) They were so far up there that NOTHING I tried worked to get them out. I was afraid if I put her to bed like that she would inhale them and choke. It took the ENT fellow forever to get them out.

I'm glad that everything was fine. It's so scary when something happens or they get sick and you just don't always know what to do.
