Exclamation Need team name/theme suggestions... fundraising ideas too for cancer walk.. N/P

Okay.. My sister signed up a 'team' for the Relay for Life walk. I am either going to be Co-Captain or Treasurer, that hasn't been decided yet..

    I need some name/theme suggestions...

The other team she was on the the theme was Fishing for a Cure and they had their area set up with a small boat, fishing poles, bait buckets and such. I can't remember the name though.

So, whatca got... I know we have some creative people on this board.

She also wants to do fund raisers.. What have you done or seen in the past? I know there is the old faithful ones---bake sales and car washes.. Trying to do something a little different.

    Thanks in advance.

    what about a pirate theme...

the fundraiser could be a raffle/$1 per ticket. get a sponsor to give a prize. or check with businesses to see if they would donate a tv or a gift certificate.

Cookie exchange. Have a bunch of people bake their famous cookies.... like 3 dozen. Have others participate by paying 5 dollars or whatever depending on the amount of people that can make it. Then each person gets to picka dozen cookies of varying kind from all the batches that people have made so you go home with a variety of cookies. This might be a girl thing. I loved it. I did it as a party thing. But you could very well do it as a fundraiser. Pay $5 to get a dozen deliscious cookies and the recipes to go with them!

The team we work with orders stuff (like from Oriental trading co.) then when you donate at least $5/$10 you get as an example a metal bracelet with the pink ribbon charm or magnet or whatever they've ordered that year. The other thing they do is "sell" luminarias - you know how they honor those that have fought/are fighting cancer? Well, for $5 you get, if you want, a luminaria bag in honor of someone. It can be plain with their name on it only or we have the kids color and decorate them if you want that - you buy one bag of lunch sacks and a huge bag of those small tea lights and you can make/sell a LOT of luminarias.

We also do combination car wash/bake sales.

Since it is a Relay for Life I would do only healthy fundraisers - no junk food involved.

Crafts of any kind can work well for fundraisers. With Valentine's Day coming up, you can make Valentine cards and sell them or something with a Valentine theme, like Valentine bookmarks You can do the same thing for St. Patrick's day. Make 4 leaf clovers, maybe dress them up with some metalics or glitter and sell them.

Bottom line is to be able to use relatively inexpenisve material and charge enough to make money toward the fundraiser on every sale. Sometimes just "getting out there" is all it takes, as many folks will contribute extra or even just contribute and not buy the item, once they know the money is going toward Cancer research.

When will the relay actually be run? Maybe you can tie the theme into a holiday near it?

Here's something like what I was talking about (they have keychains and other stuff this year, too). Before shipping these are 50 cents each.
