Can I use carpet stain remover on a couch?

My son just got marker on my new chair and all I have is Spot shot and Woolite spot & stain carpet cleaner.

What type of material is the couch? If it is a regular type fabric that you would normally make a pillow out of (does that make sense?) It should be ok. If it is leather or suede type of fabric no, it wouldn't work. You could also find a tiny area to spot test it first. Chances are if it is going to be a problem you would know within 1/2 an hour. Our couch is a cotton type fabric and I use the carpet cleaner on it all the time and then the next day wash with a little laundry detergent and let it air dry.

Gotta love when they color outside the lines

I've used Spot Shot on the couch but my couch is from Ikea and has a removable washable slipcover. I'd try it on a spot under the cushion so if it ruins the fabric it will be in a spot you won't see.
