Well, I usually figure about 1/4 lb. of meat per person. With sloppy joes I think you could get away with less though. I just bought a can of manwich and I think it said it serves 7, that's using a pound of hamburger. So...for 25 people you'd need what, 4 pounds? Of course, I like to make sure there's enough in case some want seconds. Better too much than too little! How many does your recipe serve?

I don't have a recipe. I usually put ketchup, a squirt of mustard, water (a little to cook in the flavor) and some pickle juice. Sometimes I have added a pinch of brown sugar but only a few times.

If anyone has a good recipe please do share it!

I'm doing sloppy joes for Tophers birthday tomorrow and I bought 6lbs. of hamburger for 25/28 people. I did figure alittle extra as my dad always likes to take leftovers home.

I would figure a 1/4 per person. More or less depending on your sides you are offering.

    Hi L!

I've got a good recipe that my mom gave me a few years back. I think it's really good! I've used it to feed big groups of people. Here it is:

    1 lb. ground beef
    1/2 c. chopped onion
    1/2 c. green pepper
    1/4 c. chopped celery
    1/8 tsp. pepper
    salt to taste

Brown meat, add veggies and cook until veggies are tender. Drain fat from mixture. Add the following to the skillet/pan:

    1 - 8 oz. can tomato sauce
    1/4 c. ketchup
    1 tbsp. vinegar
    1 tbsp. sugar
    1-1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
    Dash red pepper

Stir all ingredients together and cover. Simmer for 20 minutes.

Obviously, you'll need to increase the amount of ingredients for each pound of meat you use. Also, I sometimes omit the green pepper and celery, because I know some people don't like it, but it's a good way to get in some veggies for the kids, since they soften up nicely after cooking. To feed 25 people, I used about 5-6 pounds of ground beef, and I had plenty left over. This freezes really well, too, so you can have left-overs some other time.

I hope K enjoys her "Big 5" party! I can't believe our babies are 5 already! They're growing so fast!
