5 yr. old and yeast infection?

Can a 5 year old get yeast infection in vaginal area? Isn't this too young? It is a sign of an underlying problem? I think my dd might have a yeast infection but she is also OCD about things sometimes. She will move from one habit to another. The more we try to get her stop the more seh does it. It had been picking the skin off her lips but now this?

Was she just on antibiotics? That often causes it.

I've noticed Madison has had this happen after swimming in either a pool with high chlorine or in the local lake. I've also noticed she seems to get one if she wears something too restricting in that area.... Just make sure to keep a healthy amount of yogurt in her diet and that should help.

My dd has had two vaginal infections as a child. With her it is a picking thing. She will fiddle down there and get an infection. The first was a bacterial infection the second was yeast. Thankfully the second seems to have cured her of the habit.

Yep, happens all the time with kids that don't change out of wet bathing suits after swimming.

DD had a yeast infection at 18 months. But, her ped said it wasn't the same type as an adult woman would get. But, she was red, irritated, blistered at some point and the skin started to peel and it almost looked at times as if she had been burnt with the white skin. After a few failed antibiotic ointments, I was finally given some Calmoseptine ointment, which is available OTC but normally kept behind the pharmacy desk. This cleared her up almost immediately and now that is the only thing we use for diaper rashes etc on both kids. It's in a green and white tube or tub if you want to check into it at your local pharmacy. Our CVS carries it, but Walmart & Walgreens said they had to order it.

That solves it. We have been trying to help her learn to stay dry at night. No pull ups. Well that is the end of that. Dh brought this up too. Thanks for the info.
