Can you give Motrin on an empty stomach?

my 3y/o has been fighting what i thought were allergies all week and this morning he woke up with a fever. he's been drinking, but he doesn't want to eat and he says his tummy hurts. his fever is over 102 and i don't want to leave it untreated in fear it will go higher. would giving him motrin on an empty stomach cause him further discomfort?

Since he has been drinking I don't see why not. I take most of my medications on an empty stomach.. (would probably absorb quicker)

Hope he is feeling better soon..

    Most advice seems to indicate:

Non-Steroidal AntiInflammatory Drugs (NSAIDS) To reduce, pain, fever and inflammation. FOOD: Take with food or milk because medications can irritate the stomach. ALCOHOL: Aspirin/BAYER, ECOTRIN Ibuprofen/MOTRIN, ADVIL Naproxen/ANAPROX, ALEVE, NAPROSYN

Can you call your pharmacist to see what they think?

thank you ladies. he actually fell asleep. he wouldn't even eat crackers (his favorite.)

maybe i can get him to drink some milk when he gets up. if not, i'll call the pedi and get his recommendation. he's really good with answering quick questions.

    thx again

It gave my dd a terrible stomach ache when I gave it to her once at 5 am (she woke up with 104 and hallucinating). Within 20 min the temp was lower and she was no longer hallucinating, but she was screaming that her belly hurt.

So no I wouldn't do it, from personal experience.

From experience with the kids, I'd go with Tylenol before Motrin on an empty stomach.
