Ever had a PAINFUL lump suddenly appear on your areola?

I'm just full of medical questions lately.
Suddenly I have a good sized bump right next to my left nipple. At first I thought my nipple was just sensitive. But I looked and there's a VERY sensitive bump.

I've read about abcesses. Has anyone ever had one and what should I do? It hurts to simply have a shirt touch that part of my breast.

go get it checked. i was sent an email not long ago that said something about breast cancer that didn't look/feel like typical cancer. it was a "sore" on the nipple area.

not to scare you but it might be worth calling your doctor and at least mentioning it.

    I'd definitely have it checked.

That said, I had it happen once & it turned out to be an ingrown hair. It turned into a huge (okay, it FELT huge but was just a pimple-size) pimply thing & once it was popped healed, but slowly. My dr said it wasn't uncommon.

I've had one and it was just an infected something or other. Once I popped it, it healed right up.

Call your doctor anyway and just be sure it's nothing to worry about.
