I believe you can have two suitcases and a carryon. Is that right??
What if you have a laptop in a case, is that considered your carryon or are you allowed that as extra??

Yup...and you can have a laptop and a carryon.

Careful on weight restrictions on the checked luggage...they're set pretty low these days.Proud mommy to:

You can generally bring one carry-on and one personal item. So remember, if you bring a laptop you can't bring a purse unless it's your only other carrry-on item.

Definitely call your airline..each airline seems to have a slightly different policy and some of them now require bags to be of certain measurements and/or weights, or otherwise the flyer pays an extra charge.

My Mom and Aunt just flew with Delta and they were 10 pounds overweight and they charged them $25.00. I believe that the weight is 50 pounds per bag and you are allowed 2 bags!

Two checked bags per ticketed passenger. If you are flying with the kids and they don't have a ticket they don't get a baggage allowance or carry-on allowance.
Believe it or not the airline will not offer the kids food if they aren't flying with their own ticket. I wouldn't count on food from the airline now anyways.
Carry-on is one bag and a personal item. Your computer bag counts as one of your bags.
