We've been trying the Santa is watching suggestion

that DDVMM made, anyone remember? We've told Hazel that Santa is watching from the smoke detectors and the light flashing means he can see! Anyway dh thinks I am fostering an environment of fear and paranoia doing this because he has caught her looking up at the smoke detectors when no one is around. What do you think, is this going over the top? I thought it was a great suggestion and her behavior is a little better than before but I don't want her to grow up paranoid!!! What do you guys think?

I've been playing the Santa's watching card too, but not thru the smoke detectors!! LOL I've just told E that Santa can see everything from the North Pole because it is at the top of the world. We had breakfast with Santa this morning, so E knows he is in town and has been on his best behavior. I also tell him I am going to call Santa when he is naughty and that always works too!!

I have a question about the whole "Santa is watching" idea - once the holiday season is over, what do you use then? I mean, I can see it working well until maybe the end of January, when Christmas is still fresh in the kiddos' minds. But after that, it seems like it would become a more "abstract" idea (for lack of a better term) and since Christmas is so far away... well, it seems like it would lose it's effectiveness.

Just curious.

Dang ! I always knew someone was watching us through the smoke detectors, I just "knew" it lol.

I think it is sweet that your DH is concerned about her mental well being, lol, but I myself do not think it will scar her for life.

But now a ??? who will be watching after Christmas? Still Santa for next year?
I have to remember this to use on Demi next year when she understands things a little more.

I would never have thought of smoke detectors!!! We don't push the Santa idea, but ds goes to preschool so he knows all about him. Last week he mentioned that Santa and God were up in the sky together watching him!!!
