What age do you stop giving "party favor bags"?

We are having Kyler's 4th birthday this weekend. For goody bags, I'm giving "Thomas" tumblers, train whistles, train rulers, Thomas coloring books and train zipper pulls. However, there are some "older kids" coming to the party (ages 8 and up). They probably wouldn't be interested in getting that stuff. Do kids this age expect to get a goody bag still? If so, what do I put in it? Do I just give them candy? What's the protocol here?

I stop goodie bags at 10. Older kids always get a little something different than the youger kids.

I think if the the older kids saw the younger kids getting a goodie bag, they would feel really left out if they didn't get something as well. I agree--get them something, but it can be different since they are older.

Or just skip the goodie bag all together. I think children's parties have gotten way out of hand . . . .

DITTO!!! I don't ever remember my mom ever providing party favor bags for our birthdays...the treats the kids got were the cake, ice cream and a drink. Shouldn't that be enough? I've done them off and on with my girls....but the last year we've really scaled down their birthday celebrations anyway and didn't have goodie bags. Do we really need to load kids up on excess sugar and send them home with little trinket toys that are really unnecessary?

i don't think it would be fair to the other (older) kids to see the younger kids getting something, so i don't think giving them nothing would be appropriate. what i've done in the past is use the same tumbler (all kids love those cups) and fill it with candy.
