Sort of ready to talk about the concerns the ped has about "Squirt"
I am going to be brief as I get upset just thinking about it, so if you have any information about these things, please share.
Kristopher has a "submucous cleft palate". It's in the roof of his mouth, it's basically where the palate has a hole, it's covered with skin, but you can see it when he cries, it sort of sucks up. Also, you know the dangelly thing in the back of your mouth.. (I know the proper term, but it's just not coming to me right now--uvular--I think) Kristopher has a double/split one. Now with the submucous cleft palate and the issues with the low tone when he was smaller has the doctor wanting to do some test. Mainly blood work---- *Chromosomes Karyotype *Fragile X He saw the look on my face and immediately said he does not have Downs, but there are other chromosome problems he could have, but he is looking for it all to be normal, it's just pairing the two---the palate thing and the low tone he wants to rule out anything. He said he would feel like he was doing a good job as our doctor if he didn't follow up on this. He also mentioned refering him to an ENT for the palate thing---it might require surgery. I know this turned out longer than I expected and I feel myself getting upset. He did say, if the blood work come back with anything he would notify my OB and give him a heads up. I did tell him the ultra sound measurments and all that were normal so the Downs risk is very low.

At this point, I would try to assume it's your dr just being overly cautious .. (I know, easier said than done). I'll be praying that is the case and that the blood work all comes back normal!

Stay positive. Let the doctor do his job. I know it's hard. to Kristopher, too. (I'd love to get my hands on him--he's so darn huggable looking!)

Emily,
I am so sorry. I can imagine it's been pretty stressful worrying about your sweet, sweet little guy. I can imagine how this worry has made things tough for you all the way around. Sending nothing but positive thoughts and prayers your way 's and more 's!

YEAH for your doctor for being proactive here! This is a good thing..to be on top of it and to make sure he's getting the care he needs! Try to think positively and know that it's better this all be checked out than let go. He'll be okay..just hang in there!

When the Drs told me my 2 month old first born had a heart murmur, I wanted to puke. I felt my stomach in the throat. An the world was spinning all around me. 1 month later, he had heart surgery. I spent the next months having a headache everyday because I clenched my jaw, nonstop.
Today is is a happy, decently healthy 7 year old. The road ahead of you is rough but remember what a beautiful boy he is and how he unconditionally loves you. And like my signiture says, "God will never give me anything that He won't help me with." Hang in there girl. ![]() Lov Liv

Hugs to you both. I will keep Kristopher in my prayers. It sounds like he has a wonderful and caring doctor.
