Random clomid results.. why?

Hi,
I just went in for a day 13 scan after taking my second round of 150 mg of clomid and 1000 mg of metformin. This combination of medication worked well last time and produced a follici of 23mm, and I even did an IUI (which failed). Unfortunately this time I didn't have any follicies growing at all. Is it normal for clomid to work one month and not the next?

I'm not sure, but I think every cycle can be different, which is annoying. Do you always ovulate around day 14? I always ovulate really late and so when I went in for my day 11 scan there was nothing really happening. However, I did finally get a big follicle last cycle around day 20. So maybe it is too early?

Thanks for replying! I wish anything about my situation was normal. In the last 19 months of ttc i've only ovulated once, last month, so its hard to say whats 'normal' for me. My progesterone level suggested that I had already ovulated, and my doc told me to start doing LH tests by day 8 of my next cycle so we don't miss our chance again. But it seems that the cycle I was expecting to show up in the next 15 days started up today. My doctor admitted that this was weird, has no explanations, but said to take the meds as I have in the past.
