Clomid or IVF

Hello,

I had a D&C 2 weeks ago....12 weeks pg. After our prenatal testing, 3 specialist advised us that our child was very sick and would not survive..severe chromosonal abnormalities. We are heartbroken. Today, I had my post-op appointment. The doctor recommended us doing the same protocol...Clomid/IUI...this worked for us on the 2nd attempt. I am okay with doing this but I am afraid of this happening again. The pathology test indicate that this was a chromosome issue that happend at conception..."a fluke" is what my RE called it...and that the chances of this happening again are slim. Of course, they told me this the first time my chances were slim...and the worst happend. My RE recommends us doing the Clomid/IUI again, but he also mentioned that with IVF, they can use PGD to test the embryos for any chromosonal abnormalities, before they are implanted inside the woman. I am 37 and worried about this happening again. My RE tells me that these chromosonal abnormalities can happen to a women at any age...even early 20s. I am not sure what to do. My insurance covers part of IVF...but we wanted to hold on to this money as a "last resort." I am not sure which direction we should go...I am so worried about getting bad news after prenatal testing again. I would really appreciate any advice you could share. Thank you.

sri-I am so sorry for your loss. From what I understand the PGD can also have false positives so there is no perfect answer. I have also read that you can have chromosomal abnormalities at any age so it might not be from age. If you do decide on PGD you might want to make sure your clinic has good results with testing, and tests often. I know CCRM (Cornell) uses PGD on a lot of patients although the testing is costly and usually out of pocket. I am sure you have a lot to consider especially during such a difficult time. I wish you the best of luck in getting a BFP!

I am very sorry for your loss
I think if I were you I would go with what works for now. You know you can get pregnant via iui/clomid. Save the money for if you need IVF?
Good luck with your choice...
