Finally granted a referral for an RE....shocking outcome.

We got to see an RE for the first time yesterday and we discovered yesterday that our best option will be IVF.

We are not thrilled of the outcome as the issue is with DH and we were informed a year ago that his tests were normal. The RE told us that DH needs to see a urologist as his semen analysis shows severe decreased motility which is not good (7 million which is horrible). We were terribly disappointed and upset with the local OBGYN office here for telling us that it was normal. We did Clomid & Letrozole for nothing last year and another year has gone by for us and all of this could have been avoided if we were given the right information.

The RE was great and very informative. He says that there is proof that we can get preggo so that is wonderful news (1 ectopic & lost left tube & natural m/c earlier this year). He says there is always a chance. He continued to say that he doesn't think Gono or AI will work for us and that I shouldn't consider it since my ectopic as I have a 20% chance of it happening again in my right tube.

The results were hard to swallow but is was actually good to get some answers after 4 years. After DH sees a urologist, I suppose we will begin our IVF journey.

I am really angry at my OBGYN's office. The doctors nurse called yesterday to apologize and frankly yesterday I wasn't too forgiving. Another year of wasted time and fertility treatments. Something tells me that they shouldn't have prescribed the drugs due to my DH's test results.

Any and all information is greatly appreciated.

It does sound like you are on the right track now! GOOD LUCK!

Taylohalo,
This may be hard to believe, but a man's sperm quality can change significantly over time, so perhaps he was fine before and not in the most recent semen analysis. I say it may be hard to believe because we just went through something similar and it took me a long time to believe my current RE's office. 4-5 years ago, after ttc for a year, we went for tests. My husband has a varicocele and his sperm analysis came back extremely suboptimal. Urologist recommended surgery to remove the varicocele, told us our chances of conceiving on our own were "slim". But we conceived naturally before I even got to my RE appt. My tests results were all fine. Now fast forward to present time. We've been ttc #2 for 2 years now. My tests came back all fine again. Ultrasound technologist, RE, and NP's all tell me that I have "healthy ovaries", "ovaries of a 20-yr old", etc. So naturally, we thought, male factor again, since my husband with my support opted to not do the surgery due to the risk of complications. BUT this time around, we were told that the sperm analysis was fine, and we have unexplained infertility most likely due to age. At my first IUI, the sperm count was 10M after washing, which is a great # according to the RE's office. So go figure!

Crazy huh. He will do the test again in about a month. My age is also a factor. Thanks for the info
