Question Adhesions to ovaries & tubes

I just had a lap, hysteroscopy and D&C which showed that both my ovaries and tubes were stuck to the side of my uterus like spider webs and called it severe adhesions. Both of my tubes were open.

I didn't have it removed as the OR wasn't booked long enough.
I will have to have another laparoscopic laser surgery to do so.

My question is. Anyone have something similar? What was the outcome?
Is it at all possible to conceive via IUI once I have the second surgery or is IVF the only way.. or will that even work w/ so much scaring??

My other question is, how and why? I was told it was probably due to an infection. What kind of infection can cause this type of adhesions?
I had a "text-book" chemical pg last July and bad OHSS in Feb. Can one of those cause it??

Thanks.

Hi - It sounds like all those adhesions are caused by endometriosis. Did your RE mention this condition after your lap? You can get this confirmed by your RE, and if it indeed is endo, then you can get a lot of info on the Internet (ex. http://www.endometriosis.org/endometriosis.html) or check out the Endometriosis board in FT.

I have adhesions, but mine were due to a prior surgery. My ovaries and tubes are adhered to and entwined with my intestines, which made IVF impossible for me, so I had to use donor eggs. I do however now have a son, so it worked out for me!

I hope yours isn't as severe as mine.

Oh, and I see that your tubes are open - that is great news and you should be able to do IUI.

Mine are blocked.

I asked my RE twice and she said I don't have endo.
I'm a bit confused between the difference between adhesions that are endo and adhesions that are not. I don't have any pain and my periods are normal.

I haven't had any prior surgery, but I did have a chemical pg last July and have had 7 IUI cycles (approx 13 individual IUI's) in the past year as well as an HSG in January that nicked my cervix and caused bleeding for 1.5wks and then in Feb I had a bad case of OHSS. Not sure if any of those things could introduce a PID or not. I guess anything is possible. I'm just ticked that my current and new infertility state is caused by fertility treatments themselves. Before all this I was fine and the only reason for fertility treatments was male factor (we use donor sperm because dh has azoopermia).

CrystalAZ - my tubes are open, but from what my RE said, only IVF would work at this point because my ovaries and tubes are so twisted w/ scars. That explains why I've had so many perfect IUI cycles and nothing worked
