asparatame causing infertility?

Hi All,

Has anyone else read about Aspartame causing infertility? I've found articles referring to it, but have not found any solutions. I must have consumed anywhere from 3-6 packets of Equal a day for at least the last 10 years...not including the amount of diet coke I've consumed.

Has anyone found anything that seems to help or more information on the topic?

I'm 32, 125lbs, 5'3". Here's what I've been doing for the last 3 years.

-Stopped taking birth control 3 years ago
-No period for 10 months (started BC around 18, but seem to remember flow was normal prior to taking it)
-Dr prescribed Progesterone to get a flow...I could not get regular period without it
-about 9 months ago, I Tried 3 Clomid cycles with increasing dosage. Had some eggs develop on the 3rd cycle but did not get pregnant with normal intercourse
-decided to take a break from the Clomid and tried FertilAid for the last couple months. I did get a period within 30 days of starting 3 pills a day. Period lasted 8 days. However, about 10 days after that, I started getting some spotting to mid flow again non-stop for the next 20 days. I stopped taking the pills and the spotting stopped about 4 days after.

I hate having to go through the Clomid cycles, but this natural remedy doesn't seem to be working for me either. Maybe I should just bite the bullet and go full out with the IVF.

Any advice or suggestion would be appreciated.

There have been emails circulating about this. Linking the asparatame to EVERYTHING that could possibly be wrong with a person. I looked it up on snopes.com and they have been false emails. Chekc out snopes.com and b/c I know they gave reasons why this artificial sweetening agent wouldnt/couldnt be linked to so many issues.

Good Luck!

I have also heard about aspertame being blamed for a lot of things.
Has your Dr tested anything? Had an hsg done, blood work, ultrasounds etc?

Thanks for the links! It calms a bit of my fears.

I have had lots of tests, everything says I'm normal. The only slight abnormal issue I have is low blood pressure.

My last fertility doc suggested I may have PCOS but said there were no definitive tests for it.

Kitty -

if you think you may have PCOS... you really need to check out WWW.ivf.com. I have PCOS and am an atypical case, and hard to diagnose.

Dr Perloe is one of the top PCOS docs. He has TONS of information on his site about the condition. There are definitely tests to determine PCOS even in less than typical cases. There are also protocols that work very well when TTC.

I have sent friends with PCOS to him who had had successful PG after seeing other RE's. If you really do think you have PCOS... I would highly recommend contacting his office and arranging a review of your records. He offers that for patients who are out of state.

good luck to you.
