Where should we go from here?

Hi. I have been TTC since 1999. I had a slight uterine septum removed back in 2000. Nothing else wrong with me. Regular periods, ovulations etc. My dh had a low sperm count but has been normal for the past 5 years. We have done multiple medicated IUI's, and 2 IVF cycles. My body responds beautiful to the meds. We get about 8 mature eggs all fertilized with icsi. They all seem to stop growing at 2 & 3 cells at day 3. My RE wants to talk about DE's, but we are not ready for that right now. Any suggestions or test that we can do? I am not going to give up!!! Any positive stories??

Have you been tested for common genetic disorders? You may need genetic counseling if they will arrest at that point everytime. To me that is what it sounds like is your problem.

I wish I had something more to say but that is all I could think of. Good luck to you!

Hi. I'm 29, my husband 37. We have been ttc for 2 years. Unexplained infertility. We tried multiple IUI's - all negative. During our first IVF last November I was so hyper-stimulated, I stayed in the hospital for almost 10 days. At 5 months we lost the baby. They weren't positive why, but at the time I was diagnosed with Factor V and MTHFR -both blood mutations that may have caused a lack of blood flow to the placenta. We just finished 3 back-to-back cycles starting in June. 2 FETs - both negative and our most recent 4th cycle, 2nd fresh. This time it was positive, but I miscarried about 1 week after finding out we were pregnant. We are not sure what our next move is, but are devastated and losing faith. Does anyone know if there is a correlation between how long you wait between cycles and success rates? Also, is there anything else we should possibly be looking for? We have had many hysteroscopy's and everything seems o.k. Any help would be great.

Sbb - I am very much in the same boat as you only I am rapidly approaching my 4 year mark of TTC. I too lost (well in my case 3) children last year around the 5 month mark. I don't have any diagosis why though. Last month I suffered a miscarriage as well.

It sounds like to me, that now that you are being treated for the blood mutations (I am assuming there) that you should be good for a future pregnancy. Clearly that impacted your child that you lost at 5 months. However the child that you just lost could have had issues that were not related to anything you did (the back to back cycles for instance). After all at that gestation normally it is problems with the chromosomes that stop the child from growing. While that doesn't help with the pain of the miscarriage (trust me it hasn't brought me much comfort), it doesn't mean that there is anything you should do differently.

I would do another fresh IVF cycle if I were you. Fresh cycles normally have higher rates of success then FET do, this is of coarse assuming that you don't have a lot more that are frozen. Obviously with this IVF cycle you will want to make sure that you are not over stimulated and tell your doctor to lower your medication to avoid that (though I am sure he/she would anyway). I have seen on the IVF board many people say that it is often quality over quanity so you may want to try for much few eggs in hopes that they are better quality.

I hope that helps! Good luck to you and if you need anything more just let me know. You may also want to post on the TTC after Child lost board (under infertilty) there are many of us that have lost children (sadly) and we know all too well the up's and down's of TTC after such a loss.

Jenninnj - Are in you NJ? I live in NYC, but my husband is originally from Jersey. Thanks for the advice. I'm sorry to hear about your loss as well. Its hard enough to conceive and have a mis, let alone one so late into the pregnancy. Its a very hopeless feeling. Although I desperately want to do another cycle ASAP, I think we are going to wait at least one month to let my body recover from everything. We are also going to get another opinion, as we have been with this doctor for over a year. Maybe a fresh approach will be good.

I have looked on this website many times and wanted to write, but never did. I'm so glad I finally did bc everyone seems so supportive.

Sam,

Yes I am in New Jersey. I like my RE but he is in South Jersey so I don't know that I would recomend him only from a driving stand point, though he is right off the turnpike. I don't know that I would change RE's at this point. I guess if you really don't like your RE then I would move but he did get you pregnant with your first child so that carries some weight with me. However with the wait then it couldn't hurt to ask another doctor some questions.

I do want to caution you that if you wait a month it will really be 2 because of the holidays (with most RE's). So you will get a fresh start in the new year then.

I am glad you feel at home here! Talk to you later!

Next step

Hi. I'm having a really tough time making a decision on what our next step will/should be. I do like my current RE, but thought a new RE would give us new perspective. We just met with a new RE to get a 2nd opinion and he said that everything done so far has basically been fine and he would not have changed anything. However, he wants me to wait for my next period (2w or so) and have a hysterosalipinogram. We have had multiple hysteroscopy's with my current RE, but never this (we basically bypased this step). The down side is that we would than have to wait until the new year to do another cycle, due to the holidays.

So, my question is this: Do we stick with our current RE and try another cycle this year or, change, do the test, and see what happens? I feel very comfortable with my current RE, the office is small and everyone knows me. I'm nervous about trying something new.

Help!!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
