    stress on DH--he's having difficulties

DH is having huge difficulties related to the stress of giving a semen analysis. The first semen anaysis revealed a prostate infections so he was treated with anti biotics. We've been trying for 3 weeks to give another follow up sample with no luck (it just isn't working). Dr. prescribed Viagra. Do any of you know anything about Viagra and fertility or know anything else to try for DH and me to get things going again. Thanks. Jann

    Hi Jann

Are you doing the sample at home or at the clinic ? If it is at the clinic is there anyway that you can do it at home ? A more relaxed atmosphere may be just what your hubby needs.

Also reassure him (as I'm sure you have done) that this is just a process that all the hubbies need to go through and that it is very difficult and often embarrassing for other men as well.

I could give you all kinds of suggestions but they are all probably too rude for here ! But if any of the other ladies want to pipe in with what they have done to help their hubbies out in these difficult moments I'll add a few of mine !

Good luck - sorry no info on the viagra - question though...is this a usual problem for hubby or is it just with doing the sample ?

This post is rated PG for adult language.....

I know in my husbands case, we do it at home, and I say we but of course I have nothing to do with it. If I am upstairs DH goes downstairs, if I am downstairs Dh goes upstairs.

My DH had a hard time the first time he had to give a sample, I must admit I was not very nice. I was about to have my HSG, I had been poked prodded and had more stuff shoved inside me than my junk drawer. So I said this to him....

"I have been stuck, poked, prodded, and I am about to have dye shot into my uterus til it overflows into my tubes which I would imagine is not a pleasant experience, and all you have to do is jack off in a cup, give me a break!"

Like I said I was not very nice that first time, however he has never complained since...lol

    P.S. Good Luck!

Hi Jann! My Dh had a really hard time giving his sample. We did it at home, but because he knew what it was for - it just didn't happen and we had to cancel our appt. But, they had me buy a special condom from their office to use. That worked MUCH better! We were even early for our appt Haha! But, that might be an option if you live close enough to their office. The condom was like $12 just for one-but it was well worth it! Hope that helps. Janice

Hey Robyn. The condom thing just worked so great! It's a special one I got from the office that doesn't have any spermicide on it or anything - so it's REALLY DRY!! So, it's kind of hard to get on - TMI - sorry. But, once it was on it was great. I dont think we would have been able to get a sample otherwise. We tried it at home with just doing it in a cup - but it was too much stress for him. He was on a time limit because we have to make appts for that (cant just drop it off.) But, by having the condom it was more just like bms than the uncomfortable truth! Good luck to you! Janice

Thanks we were like an hour and a half away so it wouldnt have worked at home. The room was like just enough for a chair and a sink in the drs office which is good is out here in Co the office is 2 blocks away so if we start seeing that dr than we can just drop it off thanks for the info awesome is all i can say.

Basically. I think you almost quoted me word for word!

I could never figure out what his problem was. I guess it is very stressful to do this. I agree with Liz. I have NOTHING to do with it. I leave the house (not going to far cause we have to "race" to the clinic with it) and he calls me when he's done. I think knowing that I'm even around stresses him out.

He took Viagra for a time, but that really didn't help get anything out, he just "saluted the sun" for 2 days.

I wish you all the best!

    Hi,
Thanks for your feedback. DS has never had problems with BMSing and we've always had a normal intimate life. For the past 3 weeks, however, he has been having problems. We tried everything--anything creative we could find on the internet, special condoms from the andrology lab (too difficult to get on that he loses it), a Xanax prescription to take an hour before the attempt, etc. The only thing that is going to help us as we attempt it tommorow is that DH's urologist gave us 'probe covers' to use as condoms. They are easier to roll on than the special condoms from the lab. Also, for the pats 3 weeks, the andrology lab has told me that we don't need an appointment--we can just come in any time Monday through Friday with a sample. And now we have Viagra too! We are trying!!!!!!!!!!!

Wish me luck tommorow. I need this sample for my insurance to let me go to the next step in treatment. Also, my OBGYN has been doing 5 months of tests on me and I have my frirst Fertility Clinic appt in 10 days. It would be nice to come with a semen report so they can help me better.

Thanks again for your help. Good luck tommorow Cindy!! Jann

Jann I wish you lots of luck! I know this might sound silly but when I had to do my first IM shot I was so terrified that I thought I was going to pass out! My friend who is a paramedic told me I needed to have a beer and relax, it really helped. I don't know if you DH drinks but if I remember correctly anything he would drink would not affect the sample, it affects the sperm a couple days later I think. So maybe you need to give him a beer or a shot or something to take the edge off.

    Good Luck!
