May be a silly question...

But does anybody know if borderline anemia has any effect on IVF? I would think with as much blood as they pumped out of me that somebody somewhere would have tested my iron level? I've always had a problem with that & at one time was taking iron supplements (made my tummy hurt) to counteract, but quit a long time ago. What brought it to my attention again was last Friday when AF reared her ugly head 3 days too early, (TMI coming) I was having such a fast & heavy flow I started getting dizzy & almost passed out at my desk. I drank a lot of water, ate some cookies & my boss made me eat some beef jerky & it eventually got better. Its happened since then as well. Does that have anything to do with anything? Or do the hormones that I'm stuffed with counteract it? I've never stopped taking my pre-natals, but apparently that's more for follic than iron. But I don't want to start taking another supplement if extra iron is going to hurt more than help. I'll pass out on the floor everyday if that's what it takes to have a baby! I'm going to ask my doctor on the 18th, but I'd appreciate y'all's point of view as well.

Thank you in advance,
Jolene

Hi Jolene
When I did IVF the meds caused me to be Iron deficient, Vitamin B12 deficient and folic acid deficient, the iron deficiency caused me to be anemic and as a result of my poor vitamin and iron levels my egg retrieval was a dud, only 1 egg and it was of a very poor quality taht failed to fertilise. I would make sure I talked to my RE and ge his advice on the best course of action. Good luck.

I wonder the same thing. I know I am borderline anemic also. I was very anemic when pg w/dd and had to take 3 iron supps a day-YUCK!!! I had blackouts until I figured out what the deal was. Let me know what your dr thinks.
