Follicle sizes

Hello all, this is my 1st post here, and would like to gain more info from this board.

I have just returned from my Dr and he did a follicle scan. I m on cd12 today, and was quite disappointed cos the Dr says my follicle measured 10mm (2 follies) only, and the rest are smaller. This is my 1st time doing the follie scan, I do not really understand well about sizes, all I know is I have only 2 weeks to get pregnant cos my DH would be away starting soon (after my cd21).

What I need to know is how long does it take for it to grow the right size before the Dr can give me a trigger shot? He didn’t give me any today cos its only 10mm today and told me to visit him a week later. Oh, and Dr said I m having PCOS

I know I cant do anything, but I m rather sad cos I m afraid that I may ended up ovulating late and by then Dh wont be around.

Anyone kind to share their experiences?

Thanks!

Jo

Those follies can be quite unpredictable. I know that they do go very quickly and can change drastically over a 24 hour period. Maybe all you need is a few more days before they are mature enough and to have your LH Surge. I would do OPK tests and plan around those. I do not have PCOS so I do not know that much in that area. Just enjoy the time you have together before he leaves...that is what is most important. And be sure to work with the RE while he is gone so when he gets back you are ready for ACTION!!!

Jo,

If I were in your position, I would ask DH to do several sperm donations for freezing, so that you can use them in IUI when he's gone. Ideally, you'd want follies at least 15mm. You may have a long first half of the cycle, so it's quite possible that they'll grow bigger by the time DH leaves. Either way, one month isn't a lot of time (for ANY couple) so I do recommend frozen sperm.

Good luck to you!

Follies usually grow about 2mm a day. You usually can't trigger until they are 16mm b/c the egg wouldn't be viable and most docs want them to be around 18mm. I don't see why your doc wants you to come back in a week - that seems very long to me. I'd call and see if you can get another u/s in 3 days to reassess.

GL!

U guys are great help here! I feel so much better knowing my follicle still will grow,LOL.. And u know what, I think I will get a 2nd opinion.

Funny thing I saw that he didnt actually measured the eggs, well, maybe its my 1st time, and I dont know the procedure, but he took a glimpse and told me its only 10 mm! Is that how they are suppose to do? I thought they should at least measured it on the ultrasound, but not just by a look of it.

I have arrange another appt with my family gynae this Friday, so hope for the best

Thanks u soo much for all your responses.

My RE definitely measures it. While having the u/s he uses the mouse and clicks on the top of the egg and then on the bottom of the egg (or maybe it's the left of it and the right, not sure) and the screen will tell him how big it is.

I'd definitely go for a second opinion.

Dawn,
U r right, as far as I could remember, my good ol gynae do measure it that way when it comes to ultrasound of the baby. This time we saw another new gynae, hence I m surprised he didnt do it, and I thought it was normal cos this is my 1st time doing the follicle scan.

I m so looking forward for my appt tommorow back to me good ol gynae !

I have just returned from my scan with another gynae. Unfortunately, this Dr did measured and it is only 11mm I m scheduled for another appt next Tuesday. I could see now that my previous Dr didnt do the measurement correctly.
