Follistim and lots of Follies- please help

I am new to all of this, but I just finished 10 days of follistim.
The day of my trigger shot, I had about 30 follicles, some 18 and 19mm.
I did my HCG shot that evening, but the DR reccomened not to do IUI, (Just try to get preggo the old fashioned way)
I am wondering if there is anyone out there, who had a lot of follicles with injectibles and what your outcome was.
Thank you-
Lisa

Hi Lisa,

I just finished my first cycle with Follistim, and on the day of my trigger shot I had one mature follicle at 18. However, I was monitored every other day with blood work and u/s so they knew how I was progressing and could adjust the dosage. The day before my trigger shot I had about 20 follicles total with a handful that were 13. At first they wanted me to lower my dosage for two nights, then do a trigger shot. With further discussion they decided to have me come in the very next day to see how I responded in the day. By then I had an 18 so they decided to do the trigger shot that night instead, and IUI 36 hours later. Oh, and in total I only took the Follistim 6 days.

Did they monitor you closely? It sounds like you had lots and lots of follicles which is good, but maybe your dosage should have been lowered at some point so you didn't have to cancel the cycle of IUI.

Hope you've been doing lots of BMS! Who knows, maybe this will do the trick.

Smiles,
Amy

Hi Amy!

Thank you for the message.

I was on follistim for 10 days. I was monitored very closely with US and bloodwork.
I went in the day before and the day of my trigger shot. The day of I had about 25-30 follicles, so to be honest, I think the DR.s were scared of how I responded to the meds.
Hopefully, we will have success. If not, we will try IVF in the next coupl of months.
Is your DR having you go in the next couple of weeks for blood work or anything?
When are you going to test?

Thank you AMy!

That sure is a lot of follicles. Did your Dr do the Estradiol test, to see what your E2 level is? That will let you know how many of those follies were mature. In all honesty, your Dr probably should have canceled your cycle, because the likelihood of multiples are VERY high.
GOOD LUCK
Julie

Yes, my Dr did E2 tests almost every other day.

On the day of my trigger shot, my level was 560.

Were you on follistim?

I just hope to get through the 2ww and know what the results are.

THANK YOU!

Your E2 level seems low for that many follicles. I believe it should be 150-200 for every mature follicle. I had 4 mature follicles the day of my trigger and my E2 was 856. Are you sure they were all 18-19 in size, all 30? Jen

HI Jen-

No, not all of my follicles were mature. There were about 3 or 4 in the 18 and 19 mm range, with a lot of follicles at 13mm.
The day before my trigger, my E2 levels were almost 900, so I coasted for a night, then my levels dropped.
What was your outcome with the 4 mature follies?
Thanks!

I just had my IUI on Saturday so I am in the 2ww? I am feeling pretty positive though. I started injectibles last month and had a BFP but I miscarried. I am responding even better this month than last. I had about 10 follicles through this cycle, 4 were mature when I triggered. Hopefully the others caught up to them. I had an ultrasound right before my IUI and there were huge follicles everywhere, Also the Nurse showed me my lining and said that I hadn't O'd yet but since my lining looked whitish that meant I would O very soon. I felt myself O before my IUI last month. My DH's sperm count was 63.25 million after the wash with 94% motility which is awesome. Did you O yet or are you still waiting? Jen

Lisa -- That's strange that your E2 level went down. Don't you think? I wonder what that means. My E2 was 602 the day of my trigger.

Jen - Wow! Your husbands count are awesome. I had my IUI on Monday and my DH counts were 36 million after wash with 83% motility. We were pretty excited with that, so you must be elated! When do you test?

I have to go in on Friday for my progesterone blood test and an u/s. I haven't had to do an u/s following IUI before - I'm assuming it is to check the ovaries and see which follicles released??? Jen, did you have to do this?

My beta is scheduled for Monday, July 25. For sure I'll probably hpt before then - I'm impatient that way

Smiles,
Amy
