Question Question......Advise Needed!

I have made a follow up with my Dr for this Monday. I have not had any tests done since I finished my last pill of Clomid on March 24th. I am now on CD 31 with a BBT of 97.5 for the second day in a row. That is up from 97.2 on CDs 28 & 29. If the HPT comes up a BFN what should I request be done. Or is there still a possibiltiy for a BFP. I have currently made another Dr appointment with anothr Dr., because I feel as if the current Dr. is not doing things the way they should be. What should I be asking for next with the Dr. and what should I request with the current Dr. at my follow-up? Am I suppose to have bloodwork and an u/s? I just don't know what I am suppose to ask for or what the current dr. should be doing. Any help will be appreciated!

Congratulations to all those who are !!! I am so happy for you and wish you a happy and uneventful 9 months!

How long have you been TTC? They put you on clomid with no tests? That is strange. You should both have work ups done to figure out the problem THEN start treatment based on your issue. Here are the tests:

You:
B/W CD3 - FSH (quality of eggs), E2, LH
Throughout cycle you should be monitored (u/s and E2)
At 8-10dpo - b/w progrestone (making sure you ovulated).

DH:
FSH, Testostrone, and most importantly a SA.

Depending on those results, they will have you do something (clomid, injections, IUI, IVF, etc). If they don't test, how do they know. Let us say for example that the issue is that your DH has no sperm that is live - you can take all the clomid int he world, but you won't get pregnant. Also, you don't want to be on these meds too long, as they have side effects and can make your pregnancy more at risk the longer you take them.

You said you were on clomid, how many follicles did you have? Are you Oing on your own?

I guess I should further elaborated. We have been TTC for 5 years. I have been pg once (I was in high school and way to young!) but not by DH. When I first went in for IF I had bloodwork done then. Thyroid, and a bunch of others. DH did have a SA and he is more than fine. BBT the first month w/ no pills. Temps looked like a really bad roller coaster. Then went back and was put on Provera and 50 mg of Clomid. Didn't do Clomid in Feb b/c I only spotted and didn't feel comfortable doing them. Went back on March 3rd, was given Provera and told to do Clomid CD 5-9. AF showed up and finished last Clomid on March 24th. Since March 24th I have not been back to the Dr. nor have I had any bloodwork or u/s.

Just made a Dr. Appt today for a follow-up with what I think is a quack--that appointment is set for Monday if AF does not show. Monday will be CD 34! I am so lost when it comes to all of this. You just can't imagine. But from the various websites I have been on, it is obvious I should have had b/w and u/s by now.

Answer to your question of "You said you were on clomid, how many follicles did you have? Are you Oing on your own?" I have absolutley no clue to either of those. She has never mentioned anything to me about follicles. And she has only made mention that according to my temps from Feb I do not O on my own. But again I haven't had any u/s or anything!

Thanks for posting a reply. It seems as if I need all the help I can get or this Dr. is going to lead me down the wrong path. Is there somewhere that shows a list of questions I should be asking?????? The only thing I have really asked about was the HSG to make sure my tubes are not clogged.

Thank you so much for all the additional information. You are in the two week wait, and the only test they could possibly do is the progestrone test 8-10 days after ovulation. But on the what day to go in, my office waits until CD36!!! I know it sucks, but it is a wait.

On the u/s and b/w question, when you were on clomid, did they have you come into an appointment and look at your ovaries to see how many follicles you had? This is critical, since some women overstim on clomid, and it needs to be monitored.

Here is what a cycle looked like for me (when I was on clomid).

CD3 go in for u/s if you had a cycle the previous month, to make sure there are no cycsts, if no previous cycle, is not needed.
CD5-9 clomid (this can vary).
CD7 - u/s and E2 - they measure the follicles and your E2 to see how many mature follicles you have.
CD11- 15ish - I would be triggered (you Ovulate on your own, so you don't need this part).
Then the two week wait.
CD36 come in for HPT if AF has not shown.

My only advice is to get really educated yourself and do research, research research. I have a spreadsheet that I look at everry piece of this process.

If you are unexplained, it may be that they just haven't done enough tests to figure out the problem. My OPK was +, and they did not figure out that I was not Oing until cycle #3 (b/w progestrone is the only way to really know).

The other thing is to make sure you are comfortable with your RE. I bring a note pad and ask a million questions, now that I have been through this so much, they know I want to know every little step, and appreciate it.

The poweer is for you to take, and lots of information is here. If you have any specific questions, pleasae ask. Also, there is a huge amount of info on this site and the IUI board is full of us cycling (over 40 of us).

Also, on the top is a link to fertility info - it is a step by step, what tests, normal ranges, etc. etc. etc. It is a great resource.
