My DD is just over 6 months old. When she was little, she and her brother were thought to have Reflux, but hers was minimal compared to him. We changed formula to soy and he was on Zantac, but better now as he is older.
We tried Zantec with dd, but it made her projectile vomit so we decided to let it be and she seemed ok, with occasional spit ups only now and then, so not too bad.
She has always been a bit of an archer too
The past few weeks she has been waking up in the middle of night and arching her neck alot and crying. She has arched her neck before, actualy, alot when asleep, but never cried so much. She wil take the nuk for a bit, but wakes up again soon after.
She might be teething too, so not sure if that plays in this.
This sounded like some symptoms of silent reflux so thought I would get your input
thanks

Hi, Kristi. I replied to your post on the General Parenting board. It does sound like reflux to me. The arching of the back while laying on the back was my DS' #1 symptom. He absolutely refused to sleep on his back, and would only sleep in a semi-prone position in his swing until he was 5 1/2 months old, when he was finally dx with reflux. Once he started meds, it was like night and day. He was immediately more comfortable on his back.
Please try the Mylanta test I posted about on the Gen Parenting board. If it doesn't work, there's no harm done. Many reflux mommies use Mylanta Cherry Supreme to quell a particularly nasty flare up. (Remember, must be the Cherry Supreme flavor) This tip was one of the best things I've ever gleaned from FT - and it is what motivated me to insist to our pedi that our DS be checked for reflux. Once dx, he was on meds until he was almost 2.
If the Mylanta doesn't work, you can concentrate on other issues. Teething or something.DunkinGirl

MY DD was diagnosed at 6 weeks, but used to arch her back and spit up alot... however one of the primary signs that her reflux was getting worse (gaining weight and needing more meds, etc) was the waking up during the night screaming. There were several stretched where she woke up every single night for 6 weeks straight and screamed for 2-3 hours. It was the worst time for us. I don't know if you pick your daughter up during the night, but I always felt that since she had reflux it was really hard for me to let her CIO unless I knew it wasn't her tummy.
When it was really bad, as soon as I would pick her up she would lay in my arms and fall asleep. I would sit holding her for 20-30 minutes then put her back in the crib and the second she hit the mattress, she woke up and started to scream again... this went on and on... that's how I knew it was more than just teething etc.
I never used mylanta, but have heard others have had success. Do you feed her a bottle right before bed? You might want to hold her upright for 30 minutes and see if it helps. You can also put her down on her stomach if that's better (assuming she can now turn over).
I hope you find some relief soon.

Sound like it could be silent reflux to me. If the Zantac didn't work you could see if Prilosec would work.
