XKAREN1014 Success Story

My story begins with an unplanned pregnancy that ended in a miscarriage only after 2 weeks. I only knew I was pregnant because I was so regular in my cycle. just a short time later we found out again that we were unexpectedly pregnant. It seemed to be going fairly well. I had some spotting but I was reassured by u/s that everything was ok. after about 12 weeks we found out that I was carrying twins. we couldnt have been more excited. At about 17 weeks they did an u/s and again everything was ok. then at 19 1/2 weeks I started bleeding excessively and went right to the dr for an u/s and it was to late. They told me that I suffered a miscarriage and there was nothing I could do. That was the worst feeling ever especially because we found out it was 2 girls and we even named them. I could even feel them moving. I was devistated. I thought maby my weight had something to do with it especially since I was told being overweight and pregnant was not a good thing.

Now I was so ready to have a baby and now we were actually trying but nothing was happening. After about 8 months we found a mf and needed to research further. My husbands testoterone was low. After tests and more tests IVF + ICSI was agreed upon and we underwent our first try. I had the hysteroscopy where they found an infection in the lining of my uterus. It was cleaned out and I was put on antibiotics and we moved on further. We implanted 2 5db and fortunately both implanted but one ended up ectopic. I had emergency surgery and the other embryo was saved. We now have a beautiful 2 year old daughter.

We have decided to try for another and proceeded with a FET. We transferred 2 5db and 9dpt my beta came back at 5.66. They told me it was positive but to wait and take another in 2 days. Unfortunately 11dpt it only rose to 7.8 so they advised me to stop taking all meds and repeat in 2 days that it was unfortunately a chemical pregnancy. The next result was not any better it rose again but only to 8.6. I was told to do the beta again on Saturday and see where to go from there. I am extremely anxious to start a fresh cycle and start again.

i realize everything happens for a reason and whatever it might have been it was not the right time right now and I just hope and gain strength from everyone else stories and experiences. Thank you everyone.

DH had a vasectomy during his first marriage but after a year together we decided to get a reversal so we could have a few children together. We honestly expected that we would get pregnant right away. I have five stepchildren, after all!

No luck. After six months of charting I started seeing my doctor for help. My doctor was no help!

He repeatedly told me that my weight was the primary issue. I am 5'1" and was about 260 pounds at the time. He assured me that if I'd only lose weight we'd get pregnant immediately.

After six more months of charting and losing about 20 pounds I went back in and tried to explain that I had a textbook 'perfect' cycle - 28 days long with ovulation on/around day 14 every cycle. Again, he told me to lose weight, that being fat was my issue.

So, I lost another twenty pounds. At this time, we moved to another state (military) and I had a new doctor.

This doctor said the same thing, and recommended I lose 100 more pounds! I tried to explain that yes, I know losing weight is healthier, but all of the women in our family are short and overweight and it's never stopped them from having half a dozen children. Nope, he wouldn't do any further testing.

At this point, we moved again. We'd been TTC for about two years post reversal. I finally found a sympathetic doctor who, even though she felt my weight was a major issue, agreed to test my husband.

Lo and behold, we found the problem! My husband has azoospermia due to antisperm antibodies developing while he had a vasectomy. We were told to immediately pursue IVF w/ICSI as it was unrealistic to expect a natural pregnancy.

We then moved overseas (gotta love the military life) and during a three month internship in Ukraine I opted to use ISIDA clinic for our IVF w/ICSI.

We were once again told I was too heavy, but because we were willing to assume the risk and pay for the procedure they did it anyway, all the while telling us it might not work.

They were very careful not to overstimulate me, and I wound up with fourteen eggs. DH had only ten useable sperm in his entire sample, so they weren't even able to fertilize all of my eggs. We wound up with 8 8-cell embryos on transfer day. They were planning to transfer 2 but at the last minute the embryologist recommended 3 because of my size and the difficulty fertilizing the eggs.

We conceived twins. I have a boy and a girl and they will be two next month. Despite all of the tongue lashings about my weight, I went to 37 weeks and 1 day with my twins. They roomed with me and we left the hospital two days after they were born with no problems.

Don't let any doctor beat you up over your weight! If you want to lose weight that is your decision. But without another factor affecting your fertility (i.e. PCOS) weight alone should not be the scapegoat for all of your fertility problems. I know plenty of skinny women that have trouble having children, and I bet there are hundreds on these boards alone!

I am going back for a FET in January. The first question they asked me when I scheduled my appointment was "How much do you weigh this time?"

I told them I still weigh 220 pounds and that I'm paying for a FET so they're doing one!

Best of luck to all of you ladies - it really IS possible to have a safe, healthy pregnancy while overweight.
