New to this process! Dr. can't find my cervix! Any advice?

Hi,

I'm 39, overweight and my DH and I have been TTC for over a year and a half! DH, also 39, was DX w/Testicular cancer in Jan. He's cancer free now, and tests now show that he has Klinefelders. So, we're going with the IUI and donor sperm. My first appt with the Dr. was extremely frustrating. He couldn't find my cervix and the u/s didn't show my ovaries. The exam was a bit painful with him trying to find the darn thing. He told me it was my weight that was causing these problems and that he would go ahead and treat me, but he can only do so much. (Gee, thank you oh great one) He sent me home with valium, percocet and clomid. Said to take the valium and percocet 30mins before the IUI procedure and maybe that would help him have the time to find my cervix without hurting me. Otherwise, he would just put the sperm at the back of the canal and hope it does what its suppose to do.

Has anyone else had a problem with a disappearing cervix? My cousin, who is only 160 has the same problem. She doesn't have the drs blaming her weight though. My current GP Dr doesn't have a problem finding my cervix. And this new Dr. is suppose to be one of the country's best RE Dr.s!!

I would find a different RE. We wasted a lot of time and money with one who couldn't find my ovaries. If he can't even find your cervix, how is he going to do anything?! Not to mention, he will blame any problems on your weight. I'd just find someone else, or at least go to someone else for a consultation and see if they have the same problem.

Thanks Crystal

I think I'm going to stick with this guy for the current and next cycle, since he's already started me on clomid. If nothing comes of it, then I'll switch.

I just got my hormone tests back and they are all within normal limits. YAY!!! So now, all I need is for the OPK to work and we'll inceminate next cycle! The OPK has to work since he can't see my ovaries with the U/S. without it, we won't know when to inceminate. the BBT does not work!

WISH ME LUCK!!

Good luck Ckone.. I have to say I definitely respect your decision to stick with your current Dr. I dont think I could do it. I'm self concious (sp) about my weight and we are starting heavy into the fertility treatments now and we are in S Korea where everyone is stick skinny and they will kick bigger people out of their clothing shops saying your to big. Needless to say if your overweight and not allowed in clothing shops heaven forbid the doctors be nice or sensitive to you about it when so many blame everything on weight. However I am very happy to say this doctor has not yet mentioned my weight he took measurements with a tape measure did height weight etc.. and never said anything once has done several pelvic exams U/S a biopsy (owch) and some other stuff but doesn't at all seem set back by my weight or make any form of mention about it. really think this process would be so much harder having a Dr. harp on you about weight. We're not stupid we know we are overweight thats emotional enough for us to handle plus the emotional issues of IF then to have someone blaming it on us like everythings our fault that we can't get PG or don't make it "easier" for the doc to do his job is just bs.

Thanks Holmes

Thanks for the support...it has been really emotionally trying, as I'm sure yours is as well. The home OPK kit did not work. I've lost 13lbs since my last Drs visit and can only pray I lose enough for him to be able to see something, my ovaries at least! I go in this Thursday. cross your fingers for me!!

And good luck with your process! I didn't realize Korea was so prejudice against heavy people! Guess I won't be heading there!

I dont know if they are prejudice against heavy people or just know you wont fit anything and don't waste time with you shopping around and possibly stealing something its definitely another insane process being here. The thing that gets me most is my husband is military and where we get all of our clothes and stuff the biggest size you ever can find is a large when 80-90% of all military spouses are overweight it's insane our government can't supply a range of clothes heck most stores kmart walmart etc.. at least go up to 3x which supports most women. You get stationed here for 2 years without any choice and have no way of getting clothes new bras nothing for 2 years it's just insane. Ok enough with my rant lol. I hope everything goes well for you at your next appt and a big grats on the 13 lbs.

Update: Dr. saw a follicle!!! He thinks. So he gave me a shot and I go tomorrow for the DIUI! I'm so excited I can't stand it. He wasn't much better, but quieter and that helped! I was on my valium, and told the nurse a thing or two about what I thought! lol

Wish me luck!!

LOL... Grats ckone I'm so happy to hear things are a little bit better for you. Sometimes you have to speak your mind stand up for yourself and you can handle the biggest jerk of a doctor so long as they shut up.. Keep us updated.
