Hey ladies, I have finally decided to give Weight Watchers a shot! My primary doctor recommended it to me a while back for general health. I am going in for ovarian drilling on Friday and RE would like me to pair that with a 20lb weight loss as well. Really, I need to lose more like 60lbs for fertility and general health purposes. I do also have PCOS, but do not take medications. I have not responded terribly well to Clomid or injections. Weight loss is the peice of the puzzle that I have been avoiding most because it is hard! I really need a buddy, so if there is anyone out there going through the same thing, let's not face it solo!!!

Hiya!! I don't post on this board but your post title caught my eye! I too have PCOS and Weight Watchers is the ONLY "diet" I have ever been on and lost weight. I have been on Weight Watchers for 3 weeks now and have lost 15lbs. I had a total of about 30lbs to lose. I think you will do great! I don't ever feel hungry and don't feel like I am being deprived of anything as there are no "off limits" foods. It all depends on how you want to spend your points for the day. Eventually you learn how to get the most nutritious foods in with the least amount of points. I wish you luck as I know losing weight is not a easy thing to do!!

I have done WW and I think it's a really good diet. Good luck to you!
By the way, as soon as you are pregnant, you can't officially do the diet anymore- they won't monitor you for liability purposes. But it's a good and safe diet, I firmly believe. |

Thanks for the encouragement ladies! I am excited about Weight Watchers! I have been tracking my points for the last few days and I will have my first moment of truth on Thursday! I am not going to be too hard on myself considering I just har surgery on Friday (lap ovarian drilling) and I have been in bed the last two days. I went to the mall with Dh because I couldn't stand to be in the house for another minute...we walked for about an hour at a slow pace, but hey, it was physical activity!!!
I am hoping that this weight loss will be the final peice of the IF puzzle for me. I have a lot of weight to lose, but have set some really realistic attainable goals for myself! I figured they wouldn't track anymore if I got pregnant, but I guess that will just have to be when I begin to REALLY self monitor and use my support system!!! |

I think the other piece of this is doing weight watchers makes you eat so many more alkaline foods, and there is tremendous research that has been done about positive pregnancy outcomes and alkaline vs acidic foods contributing to that. For example, coffee and sodas are acidic, breads are acidic, dairy is acidic, etc.. eating too many acidic foods create a negative "host" and implantation will be very difficult. BUT ww, you have to eat alot of veggies and fruits (fruits are alkaline in their natural form) and nuts to feel full. You also have to drink a lot of water and I buy 1.5l of spring water to make sure I am getting 3 liters a day. I was drinking spring water specifically because I had read prior to ww in the Fertility Connection that spring water specifically is more alkaline than other waters. I really believe that the natural consequence of a much healthier eating style and losing 15 lbs is what really helped us. We have an ultrasound this week to see what is going on exactly. It will be nice if this works and I don't have to shell out money for IUIs and IVFs this year!

That's intresting Krista. I had not heard about the alkaline vs acidic foods before, but I guess it makes sense. I hope that it works for you as well! I went to see RE today for my first post op visit. They made me get on the scale. To my shock and amazement, it was down 7 lbs from last week. I did go an entire day without eating because I had just had surgery, but I have been trying to stay on point and even went out walking for about an hour yesterday! I was thrilled and it was enough to give me just the boost of confidence that I needed! I know that I can do this!!! I know that all of us can be successful in losing weight! A loss of 5%-10% can have a significant impact on your fertility! I am almost at 5% already!

Jacqui...There's a bunch of us girls doing WW that are over on the Community Forums section under Health & Wellness...There is a sticky at the top for each week's weigh in reporting. Here's the link if you'd like to join in on reporting your weigh-ins, getting and giving support to others, sharing recipes and tips, and just generally supporting one another here too...I have lost 59 lbs on WW since last February, and it's a great program. Though my weight loss has been slow and steady, it has been the least deprived and healthiest mentally that I've experienced...

Hi Jacqui, I'm on jenny craig. only lost 3 lbs so far after 3 weeks. I shouldnt complain but was very unhappy bcz all week I tried so hard eating these mini meals when I really just wanted fresh and comfort type foods then only lost 1 lb. After I started menstruating I realized that's why I didnt loose as much as expected. WW never worked for me since I am not disciplined at all. plus i need hand holding more than WW offers. I'll follow dieting with you, WackyjacqyuRN. every bit helps.
