Just Trying To Help

Does anyone have the wonderful resolution of losing weight this year?
If I could kick my own butt I would. I am really happy with the way that I am. I am comfortable in the person that I am, but lately I feel like I am...busting out of my skin. Does that make any sense? So I have set myself a goal. By June I would like to lose 40 lbs. I won't be doing anything, "crazy" different. Just drinking more water, walking more, eating smaller meals and more of them. I've already started the water and I feel like I'm swimming. Does anyone know how this is suppose to help you lose weight?

regarding your post
hi. i read your posting and it sounded like i was reading my own thoughts. i am overweigth and infertile. i have been wanting to ease into a routine for the new year to lose this weight and maybe that will help my husband and i finally concieve. since i have pcos, i was going to cut out white breads, sweets, and start eating more proteins like vegetables, fish, etc. i was also starting to drink more water too. my husband is going to do this with me as this is going to have to be a lifestyle change. that is why we are adjusting slowly and not all at once because that has never worked for us. we are hoping to start walking everyday, as well, as weather permits. I do know that water helps you feel fuller, so you dont want to eat as much. also, it helps keep your system cleaned out. I am sure there are other ways water helps us to lose the weight, but i have also heard drink no more than 60 oz a day because too much water washes out the electrolytes from your body and cause you to have problems with your kidneys(go figure). I guess what they say is true: "too much of anything is bad for you, but do everything in moderation". I am currently at 230 lbs and want to get down to 170. I am pretty big boned and have a lot of muscle mass as I was in dance all of my childhood and teen years. I wasnt overweight then, but after 15 years of not dancing, it really backfired on me. I am thinking that 170 is realistic for me and once i obtain that goal, I will go from there. I pray you reach yours as well. you may email me to keep in touch if you would like. it would be nice to have someone to talk to while trying to overcome. My email is angdavis40@yahoo.com . Feel free to email me anytime. God bless!!! Sincerely, Angela

Angela,
Sounds like you have a good plan. I know that if I cut carbs I would drop weight quickly, but I am a carb FREAK. LOL. Need them in my life. Staying away from the "really bad" stuff might be hard, but it can be done! I hope. ![]() How much water are you suppose to drink? |

I have a weight loss goal too...I am a bit frustrated. Since taking clomid (and I just finished my 3rd cycle) I gained 20 pounds. I currently am 300lbs and 5ft10. I have struggled with my weight all my life loosing 30 gaining 20 loosing 40 and gaining it all back. I am starting the G.I diet in January. I took it last year and had a lot of success with it. I also got a Wii Fit for Xmas too. Between daily workout on my Wii Fit, following the G.I. diet and going to the gym 3 times a week I hope to shed the weight. I have PCOS, thyroidectemy and type II diabetes so I hope the weight loss also helps keep the medical stuff under control as well.

Holy workout! Man....I thought I was doing good walking my mile each day. LOL.
I have some friends that are looking to lose too that I might get together with. I just don't want my life to be about a diet. I hate that part. Watching, counting, making sure not to over do it. Anyone else feel like that? |

Yes. I hate dieting, so I am refusing to call it a diet and call it my new lifestyle. The word diet makes me sick because everything associated with that word is not fun at all. I guess I want to succeed so bad this go round that I have to get myself in the right state mentally. I was doing some research online yesteday and found that the SouthBeach Diet is one that is fairly flexible and I dont have to buy thier food. Doctors also evaluate this and state because there are 3 phases, you can live on this one. This one watches the "bad carbs", and lets you eat the good ones, unlike the atkins that makes you get rid of pretty much every carb out there. I am getting psyched up about it now and plan to start the day after new year. Oh, and I heard that drinking 50-60 oz of water a day is a good amount. Good luck to both of you and I will keep in touch on here. Angela

South Beach Diet
I also plan to start the south beach diet after the new year. I've did weight watchers in the past, and it works for me, but I think the South Beach diet might be better for me fertility-wise due to the PCOS. I know I definitely have to do something. Luckily, I have finally stopped gaining since I started back on Glucophage, but I have gained about 35 pounds in the last year, without lifestyle changes. Good luck, maybe we can help each other out with recipes and such!

Weight Loss Goals For The New Year
Weight loss goals? you betcha...looking to lose about 10% of my current body weight before I go to the specialist (26lbs should be do-able, right?)
I don't know about doing a diet-to me, diet is a nasty four letter word. I'm calling it a lifestyle change...whenever I've been on a diet in the past, I've always been over-focused on how much weight I have (or haven't as it usually is) lost. My doctor told me to look at it as a lifestyle change and just work on feeling healthy. I'm starting off slowly with simple changes (no pop unless it's diet, easy on the carbs, etc), and following a food plan that my nutritionist laid out (really easy, doesn't restrict anything, it's everything in moderation-if anyone would like a copy, I'd be more than happy to email it...reach me at canadianagirly@gmail.com ). Along with better eating, I'm going to make it a priority to go to the Y at least 3 times a week, even if it's just for a few laps in the pool or a few miles on the treadmill. As far as drinking water, I believe it's 8-8oz glasses a day, which works out to be 2 litres. A helpful tip to avoid that "floating away" feeling and not having to go to the bathroom right after you have a glass is to not drink it ice cold-your body absorbs it more if it's cool to room temperature. I'd love to hear from anyone that is having success losing weight-any tips would be welcome! Good luck to everyone! |

Well...as I said I would I will give you an update. Since the 1st...I have lost 4lbs. Well, at least it is a start. I have faithfully being working out on my Wii Fit daily and haven't gone to the gym. I will go to the gym Wed and Fri this week then the plan of my gym routine will be Sun, Wed and Fri with the Wii Fit everyday. I would like to loose 10% of my current weight before I go to my first fertility clinic appointment (which is 30lbs). I too am big boned and muscular but still need to tone up and shed some. I was in figureskating as a child so it kept my legs muscular. Where, as most PCOS patients due, have the issue is my mid section. I am 5ft10, 300lbs and 18/20 clothing size. I'll let you know next week where Im at. My secret, the G.I diet which really isn't a diet but more of a lifestyle change. I also am thinking about signing up for weight watchers online so I have someone to report too...so there is no cheating.
Best of luck to you all! (Just a preview of the activities I've been up to in my workouts...LOL)

I have a weight loss goal for the new year too. Losing 30 lbs. is my short term goal. I am starting a food/fitness journal to help count calories. You can download a template from WedMD. I am also starting a walking program. At least 20-30 minutes every day, weather permitting (down here that means before it gets to hot). I have some walk-buddies at work and a great place to walk.
Success to us all!!!!! Lisa |
