Newbie here
Hi everyone! I am so glad to have found this site!! I just happened to stumble upon it while googling for a RE. I am Brandie. I live in Georgia and have been married for almost two years. My hubby and I have been actively TTC since March, although we have not ever prevented it. I have Type 1 diabetes (controlled by an insulin pump) and PCOS. I had a vaginal ultrasound done in April that revealed that my follicles were underdeveloped which explained why I wasn't ovulating and my cycles were out of whack.
I am currently on CD1 of my fifth cycle of Clomid. I took one cycle of 50mg and now I am on 100mg. The first cycle did not work so they changed my dosage. My hubby had a SA done last month which revealed that his count was slightly lower than normal. My OB wants him to have one more SA done (which is like pulling teeth) and then if it is low, he wants him to go to a Urologist to check for structural problems. If there are no structural damages he wants to do an HSG (dye test-I think that is what it is called) on me and then send us to a RE. We are kind of at the point that we are ready to go to a specialist. Will the specialist have to do these tests anyways? Sorry this is so long but I am super excited to find this site!! Brandie

Hello and welcome to the site!
I know they call it an Infertility Work Up.. They do the SA, Hormonal Studies/Blood test, Endo Biopsy if they have too, HCG, Ultrasounds, and sometimes if they still figure things out they will do a Laparacopy, the last RE we saw wanted to do a post coital test "so very old fashion." Have you done anything other then just taking Clomid? I started out with 100mg and responded pretty good. I also take 10,000iu of HCG around 36 hours before our IUI. We haven't had to up anything yet and we have had two IUI's. We are waiting until Tuesday to see if the second was successful. As far as the hubby goes I know mine really wasn't interested in doing it either but I talked him into it after awhile. Once I made him do it right before work OMG I never heard the end of it!! I always say you get off SOOO much easier then I do! After awhile he now agree's you guys should sit down and talk trust me a SA will be a whole heck of a lot easier then some of the questions/test you guys will be going through. GOOOOOD luck!!! |

Thanks for the reply and the information! No we haven't done anything else besides Clomid. My OB is waiting to refer us until my husband gets the other SA done. I will have to try your suggestion and maybe that will get him in there and get it done! I am ready to get this show on the road LOL
Good luck on Tuesday and I hope you get your BFP!!! |

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I am also overweight and ttc. In
addition to that similarity - my husband has low count and motility and I was diagnosed with PCOS. I do not have a diabetic issue but I am on metformin. My doctor said that it's better to use in conjunction with the clomid. I just had my 4th cycle of clomid - started at 100mg for 2 cycles and then 150mg for 2. Last cycle I ovulated on my own but not until late. This cycle I was going for IUI because of my husbands count and motility but I didn't progress. Because it was late last month - I just went today (cd 21) to see if anything is growing but they said the follicles all look too small and I'm waiting for info on the estrogen level. Next cycle, I'm going to do injectable meds. I went thru the HSG - it's painful but not for more than when they are injecting the dye - and uncomfortable of course to have people poking around down there. My husband wasn't to keen on the SA but he was a pretty good sport about it. His problems result from undescended testicles as a baby, that he had surgery to correct at the age of 5 or 6. The doctor just called me and said no way it's happening with this cycle. I have to make an appointment to see the dr and make arrangements for possible injectable meds and an IUI cycle. Good luck to you! |

IUI worked and only on 50mg Clomid
Hi...
I wanted to give you my success story... I had 6-7 cycles of 50mg Clomid......The last one finally worked and my little boy is going to be 2 in Dec. My husband had low motility which is why the dr suggested IUI. I don't have any other problems myself but with low motility the best chance to get the little guys where they need to go was the IUI. I had no clue about an IUI until my first one was done. Fairly easy and painless. We are getting ready to it again in January (when my Flex plan get reimbursed again). For now we are trying on our own and I'm trying to keep a positive outlook that it just might work. One word of advice, if you ever have questions, don't be afraid of asking your doctor. That is what they are there for. Mine is awesome and I can't think of a better Dr here in NE. Good luck to you!!!! Jenn |
