Anyone using Follistim?
Hi all. I haven't been on this site in a while now. The last was in the fall and I became pg but lost it in November. We had a miscarriage in 06 and 07 and I was on Clomid both times. This time we used Follistim. It was a rough cycle and we are now in the two week waiting period. Just curious if anyone else had tried it and what side effect/symptoms they experienced.

pg + m/c + child mentioned
----------------------------- just wanted to say that i got a bfp from my first clomid+iui cycle, but m/c. after some cycles in between (benched, cysts, non-responsive, bfns) i got a bfp from a gonal-f+iui cycle (gonal-f is very similar to follistim) and dd is now almost 14 months. it was the second round... they tweaked my dosage a bit for the second go around. i have pcos and age issues, but i am convinced that the injectable was a better option for me. no real side effects from the gonal-f that i recall. also wanted to say if you have another m/c you might think about asking for additional testing... with some successful pg (if i read your siggie correctly) it may not be an issue, but there may be some other issues that need addressing. i hope this cycle is a BFP and that it sticks for you. cheers, -tia |

I am using Follistim and Menopur combination right now (for what feels like the umteenth time). I have not experienced any side effects that I can remember
- I somewhat say that in jest, since I think all these hormones have an effect on memory, as I keep drawing blanks lately, which is very unusual. The only other side effect is the cramping as my follicles grow. I've noticed that I respond much better to Follistim, versus Bravelle. My follicles wouldn't respond to Bravelle for some reason. However a girl who went through the same cycle with me got pregnant with triplets on Bravelle, so who knows?! Wish I had more concrete information.

pg mentioned
They have done genetic testing on me. I had the test in December after the second m/c. My testing came back ok. With my last two m/c they did testing on what they call "product of conception". The first was normal XY so they think that they may have actually tested a piece of the "non product". This last time the report came back that m/c was caused from XY w/ 47 chromosomes and they blamed the egg because there was two #1 and it comes from the egg. So I was hoping for great success with the follistim. (More follicles, ovulating earlier would mean healthier eggs) I turn 34 Saturday and they don't really think that my age is affecting my eggs yet but now I am starting to worry.
On a positive note, my day 21 progesterone was >41 (they stop measuring at 41) and yesterday my progesterone was still >41 and my beta count was 128.7 They were all jumping up and down and being all giddy and I'm standing there like a log saying "ok, thanks." I feel guilty for not being giddy and on cloud nine but the last two times also started out with normal hcg levels.
