Newbie need Advise
Hello to everyone from Puerto Rico
I need some advise and also opinions to the following maybe someone had the same experience My weight is 238 ( give or take ) My husband and I had being ttc since 2001 and due to ups and downs no luck yet well my grandmother told me to go to a obgn to see what is wrong well we went she found nothing I told her I was on the DEPO shot for only 1 year she said that was no problem she told me she was to give me clomid very Low dose in my next cycle. The cycle came did everything to the T's and no luck so she decided to do a "counting" on the 14 day of each cycle she couldnt not find anything no eegs so more bloodtests all came out OK I realize after 6 cycles that I am a 38 day and not 28 so up went the dose on clomid she did find signs of ovulation ( finally ) but on sept. cycle my doc was attending a delivery so there was another doctor there after he check he told me very cold you will never get pg since you are to over weight you must be thinking that you may have seen overweight females pg but remember they where not in that condition as you are so stop eating and you better hurry since your clock is ticking I left in tears.. the very next day I told my doctor the next time that she would be out and if he was attending I will not go I rather wait to see her. This Oct. she decided to another dose of Clomid 150 mg went to the check up she even was pleased everything looked like this was it and on the 37 day of the cycle my cycle started I called her and she is know sending me to test called Hysterosalpingogram and told me that if it comes out with some problems that I would have to seek a Spc I am very worried my grandmother told me that she thinks my doctor doesnt know what she is doing. I check a web page about the procedure and the results for in good shape and the others know I started to cry to what if I have that condition or this ... would appreciate any advise also please forgive If I dont know all the acronyms

37and trying,
I had an HSG test like the one possibly being recommended for you. Sounds like you haven't been given much information. The test basically checks for blockage in your tubes. They inject a dye in the fallopian tubes. My understanding is that you can conceive even with only one tube functioning, but maybe there are ways of clearing out the blockage. If there were blockage, that would explain the delay in conceiving and than maybe it could be remedied and you could move forward. Don't stress about a specialist helping you with that. The goal is to just get your body ready to get pregnant. I am severely overweight and was told by several people, my RE, accupuncturist, etc, that I must lose weight to be able to carry a pregnancy successfully. I know you are stressing about age, etc. I am too. I do have to tell you, though, that I have a friend who's in her MID 40's who is on the verge of having a child. Her doctor was grim like all doctors are with women of so called advanced age. Meanwhile, she ate organic, did accupuncture and has had a GREAT pregnancy, despite all odds. I have one child and had three miscarriages thereafter. I was told it might be old eggs, or some other unknown factor. I did an IVF cycle, but was told that due to my weight (also over 200, at only 5'2"), it only yielded a few eggs and none implanted. Losing weight improves your chances of having kids. Forget about mass weight loss. Just 10% supposedly improves your chances. You could lose that in a month on South beach. My accupuncturist told me Eastern medicine believes women are fertile till their late 40's but diet affects fertility. Google "Julia Indichova". You will find such amazing information from her. You will begin to have faith again. SHe wrote several books and has seminars. She tells countless stories of women who got pregnant when it wasn't thought possible. |

Hello 37andtrying First off I would like to say I'm sorry for everything you are going through....And just wanted to say I was on depo for about a year and I was told by one of my doctors that it normally takes a while to get pregnant after being on depo-sometimes up to a year (although this is not the case for everyone) I have been off for almost 3 years, but thats not why I'm not getting pregnant.
I have PCOS so I dont have regular periods or ovulate regulary-I'm about 50 pounds overweight I have 2 kids ages 8 and 3. My 8 year old I got pregnant after taking provera to get my period and after that I gained so much weight it was hard for me to get pregnant with my 3 yr old. I lost about 23 pounds and within 2 months I got pregnant with her. I am TTC #3 right now and on clomid (6th cycle and still overweight) That doctor still didnt have any right to tell you that you will not get pregnant because you are overweight (at least not in that way) Though that may help as Shef mentioned-losing 10% of your weight could make a difference, but there are many treatments out there that can help you get pregnant. I'm not sure if you like your doctor but it really helps if you find a friendly doctor who is willing to help you in anyway possible. I have done the HSG test as well and my tubes are not blocked-that is a good test to take especially if you have been TTC for a while. Have you ever had bloodwork done? I really hope everything works out for you. If you have anymore questions dont hesitate to ask........

I am sorry. I had a doctor coldly say that to me. What a jerk? I dropped him like I never had him and when to a infertility specialist. Trust me, our weight isn't a problem. I've seen women 400-500 pounds who are so big that when they are pregnant you cant tell but the have four or five children. Go see an fertility doctor. The OBGYN can only go so far anyways and the same tests you are doing now you can do with a specialist who will know what to look for. My OBGYN told me that I don't ovulate....Boy was she wrong. I ovulate every month on my own. My DH is the factor but at first she said it was me. After running the right test, it was him. See what I mean? Good luck

R u fiurig out when you ovulate by just counting the days That can be inpercise and timing is everything in this game-- you should follow it up by using either an ovulation predictor kit (OPK) from the drugstore or buy an OV atch or fertility monitior. Taking Charge of Your Fertility alos teaches you how to observe and chart signs of your fertility or you ca use the website that will chart it for you- i think it's called fertilefriend or somethig like that. I wouldn't rely on simply counting form the first day of your period-- but that's jsut me andI'mno expert. I'm sorry that doctor was so cruel about hte way he said that to you. As previous posters said it is true that woman much heavier than youhave had children without problems, it is also true that losing some weight and being at your healthiest ca ijmprove your chaces particularly for soeone who is havig problems conceiving. If I were you I would cut out any fast food, processed foods, white sugar, empty carbs or fats and concentrate on plenty of food in the clean and organic category including fats like nuts and avocados-- to e it's more about putting healthy fuel into your bdy than it is aout what shape your body is in or hte number onthe scale. It's what octane fuel you are putting in the tank you know? Maybe you already eat really healthy I have no idea but if you want to make any change in eating that's all I woud do-- the doc who gave you the whole "you'll never get pg " speech is an ar$e and obvioiusly doesn't know what he is talking about since he has no idea wether you will get pg.
It does improve your chances to get your body in the healthiest condition you can-- if you already have it there and this is your weight at your healthiest then I wouldn't give it another thought, if you think your diet could use a little tweaking and that you are consuming some things that are perhaps not adding to your health then try limiting them. Lots of soda or caffeine etc can be an issue-- for me I won't drink any soda especially if it's diet (the fake sweetener is too fake food for me) I jsut drink perrier and organic juice- it's good. That alone could cut 10 lbs off you in month if you are a big soda drinker. best of luck and you don't have to be a size 4 to get pg that's jsut ridiculous. (BTW my friend who is 200+ lbs is pg with twins so take that mean doc!) |

Hi ladies,
I start IUI next cycle, this month we did clomid 100mg with intercourse. Both DH and I are large and have been ttc for over 13 months. DH has a dd from a previous relationship, I have no children. All my tests are clear, and I O every month. DH has had 2 bad sa and 2 good ones indicating we have no issues. The bad ones indicate needing IVF. So we are at a loss. We are doing HCG 10,000, 100mg clomid, estrogen, baby aspirin and progesterone suppositories. Re recommends a couple cycles of clomid and then injectibles. We are lucky we have insurance to cover up to 6 IUI. I feel like I gain more weight because of these meds and the stress. It took us 6 months to find a good re that wasnt biased against us - we wasted 6 months with one that was NEVER going to treat us because of weight. Thanks for the support. |
