I am new here and looking for some advice
Hello, I am new to this site. I have been trying to conceive for almost 3 yrs. I was dx with PCOS about 5 yrs ago and have been struggling with my weight ever since. I have been reading that if I could loose weight my body will start ovulating on it's own. Has anyone had any success with getting pregnant from significant weight loss. I have been on clomid for 4 months with no success. 2 out of 4 months were missed cycles. Waiting to be refer ed for IUI. Any suggestion on tips for wt loss.

HI I have PCOS> I was pregnant last summer twice. ONe miscarrage and one pregnancy with quads I had an ectopic. I had lost weight. I also dont use clomid. Clomid has very low success rates with PCOS it also thins the lining making it difficult for embrios to implant. I have done very well with gonalf which is a very expensive drug. I am also doing very well with Femera its also known as letrozole a cancer drug. This drug has helped me ovulate and produce follicles and havea great lining. This is my second cycle with femera. I have met alot of women with pcos that had success with this. I also do IUI with drug theraphy. I may go back to IVF in the next yr or so. I have information that was given to me by my doctors office on letrozole. They tell possibilities of differnet things and the possibilities are very low. I will do my best to cut and paste them in here. Its way to much information to cut and paste. Please feel free to email me for the information and I will forward them to you. I apologize for the inconvenience.
I have found that aggressive treatment, and persistence will get success. I have had 7 mcs and 1 ectopic 13 rounds of clomid, over 20 iuis, numerous medications such as gonalf, pergonal, follistim, ganirelix, prometrium, metformin, clomid and femera. Im 36 yrs old and at this on and off 13 + yrs. I wish you the best and I hope and pray that everyones hearts desire to have children comes to pass. GOd BLESS HUGS BABYSDUST> |

Try adding flax seed in your sauces, cereal yogurt etc. ITS great decreases your cholesterol that PCOS Increases, great for your blood pressure, glucose, weight loss and bowels etc. I sneak it in our food all the time and hubby never noties it lol. Eat your vegetables no canned or processed foods, no cold. Count your calories measure your food. when you eat out ask them to package half yor meal and eat the second haf for another meal at another time. HUGS hope this helps

Thanks for the info. Wow 13 yrs. I don't know if I have that in me or not. It has been a little over 2 yrs for us and it is starting to get frustrating. The side effects of the clomid suck. I wake up in the middle of the night with the worst hot flashes. Thanks for the tips on wt loss. I did w/w for awhile and did well and then I strayed. Have been having a hard time getting back into it. My biggest problem is that I work shift work, and working nights throws my eating schedule out of wack.
Was considering trying herbal magic but heard it is quite expensive. Waiting to be referred to a different OBGYN to start IUI. I contine to be optimistic, but reading so many people's stories makes me a little sad. Have you heard or read anything about the use of ASA during pregnancy to help prevent miscarriages. Talk to you soon |

The best doctor for you to see is not a OB GYN You need to see a Reproductive endocrinoloigsts. They have the most experience in infertility. They also have more medications and more procedures and tricks up thier leaves to help get your prego. They also monitor you and do all the necessary testing on you and your husband.
I have managed to keep ttcing by telling myself that I am willing to go through whatever it takes to get a baby. I also take breaks. I also come here for support. I go through each cycle if i'm prego im prego if inot i iwll try again. I do alot of research and I ask alot of questions. I'm not afraid to aggressive treatments. I have taken ot home equity loans and 401k loans to pay for treatment. I search out insurance companies that will pay for infertity etc. I will change my insurance in Janury to get more cycles paid for. I'm simply not ready to stop. I refuse to take no for answer when it comes to my body. I go for monthly pedicures, manicures, massages, acupuncture appointments. We go away on weekend vacations to get away as we both cant go on vacation together during the week. We both work in the same office side by side. Side effects to the meds suck however, I just keep telling myself its part of the infertility roller coaster this is par for the caorse. Every painful sucky side effect or test etc is part of me trying to have a baby and its all worth it to me. I dont notice the needles in the blood draws anymore I'm used to being stuck. I'm used to having bruises on me from blood draws and shots, I'm used to HSG's cause I have had 3 of them, I'm used to the hot flashes, mood swings, tireness, I'm used to the emotional aspect as well although sometimes still gets to me. The unexpected things are still a challenge at times. I just keep telling myself whatever it takes just do it. Thats it simple as that. I hope and pray things go better for you. |

hi there. i'm new here as well and i have pcos as well. a great weight loss book is the sugar solution book. my mom has pcos and has lost 40 lbs or so, and its just eating healthy, but you still get plenty of food, its more about portions and light stuff. like for dinner we have a hamburger on a wheat bun w/lettuce and tomato and a salad, and some multi grain tortilla chips, or the recipe for "not your mothers meatloaf" in the book is AMAZING and another plus is cutting it in their portions lasts most of the week, so you only have to cook once or so! lol, but anways, so we will have the meatloaf, salad, veggies and a small baked potato w/light sour cream and butter. anyways, this is getting long, but i lost 10 lbs in the first week and 1/2 and we still eat the food, but unfortuntely i've gotten back in to my old habits of mt. dew and chocolate. anyways, i hope this helps and i'm really glad i found this site~!

Babythoughts,
I just wanted to tell you that you don't need to wait to be referred to a RE, unless you have an HMO. I have been TTC for 4 years and my OBGYN just kept giving me the run around. Basically, after she found out my husband's count was low (but not abysmally low, her words) she told me to lose weight and keep trying. That ticked me off I live in the DC area so I called up Shady Grove and they told me to come on in. I have a POS health plan, so I don't need a referral to see a specialist. I just have to pay the specialist copay. My DH and I went in to consult with the RE and she said basically that since we had been trying so long, it was up to us how aggressive we wanted to get. Since my health plan only covers IUI, I decided to start there (I'm currently on cycle 2). She would have jumped us straight into IVF if we wanted to, but I just don't have the cash for that. Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to let you know of your options. I had no idea that I could just go straight to the specialist. Had I known, I would not have gone through 4 frustrating years of trying on my own. Good Luck |
