Hi,
I was about 50 lbs lighter when I got pg with my DS, 4 years ago.
I get AF every month and don't appear to have any hormonal probems (although we do have some male factor, I have a polyp that I may be getting removed via D&C and also may be having a lap to remove scar tissue from previous surgeries (a C Section and a myomecomty for fibroids).
Anyway, my question is how will the extra lbs effect any treatment that the fertillity doctors willl put me on (clomid, IUI, IVF, etc). I will be going to an RE for the first time next month, after about 16 months of TTC with no luck).
Thanks, Jann

Sometimes being overweight affects fertility and sometimes there is no effect at all. It all depends on your body. Since you have regular periods, you are probably ovulating. That is half the battle, and the most common way that weight affects fertility. The polyp and fibroids may affect it somewhat depending on where they are/were, and obviously the male factor would. If your problem is male factor, it wouldn't matter if the RE put you on fertility medication. They may recommend IUI or IVF, however.
If you are ovulating every month, there is really no need for Clomid or injectible medications. There is some evidence that Clomid doesn't always work as well in larger women, but of course that isn't true for everyone - it works quite well for some! Some doctors won't do IVF if you are over a certain BMI, but IUI should be fine.
Good luck with your first RE appointment! I hope your TTC journey from here is short.

I don't know that there is enough research to show either way? I know overweight women who have gotten pregnant, and women who were skinny that had IF. I think it just depends on the woman... From what I know at least...

Good luck on your TTC first...
Second...a lot of dr's go by BMI. Then again...I have been to a few dr's that don't even care about my size. They just give more medication.
Good luck.
