First-time Glucophage user...any advice or success stories?

Today, my doctor took me off the Clomid, put me on Glucophage therapy and gave me a shot of Progesterone. I haven't done any research on Glucophage therapy yet, but I am about to, and I wondered if any of you gals have had any success with Glucophage therapy...my doctor says that sometimes Glucophage is all that's needed to achieve ovulation for some women...that they don't need to add Clomid to the regimen. Does anyone out there have any words of wisdom or stories of success using Glucophage? Any postings would be appreciated.

Thanks!!!
Michelle

I used clomid and got pregnant twice. I am not insulin resistant, but added glucophage and carried my next two pregnanies to term. I would definitely use it again!! good luck.

My advice is definately take it with food. It makes a big difference in preventing side effects of nausea and diarrhea.
Best of Luck,

I have taken Metformin (same as Glucophage) 2000mg for quite sometime now. I asked my doctor if I could take it in the evenings, right after dinner. She was fine with that. This then allowed me to sleep through any stomach cramping. It also depends on what you eat that will cause a side effect. For myself, If I stay away from refined sugars, white carbs and processed foods I am fine no effects at all. I will actually feel pretty good. But if I eat anything too starchy I am sluggish and in the bathroom (usually the next morning) I have not noticed any change on Metformin (Glucophage) but I continue to take it in hopes of something. I have also started taking recently Actos(45mg) and Provera (10mg) so hopefully with the 3 of these combined I will at least start a period and hopefully start to ovulate.

Hello All, I have been on 1000mg of glucophage for just about 1 year. I never had the cervical mucas ever for years.. I did notice now since glucophage every once in awhile I have the cervical mucas. Maybe that means I ovulate, but no sperm has caught my egg yet. Success stories would be great to hear if someone out there has concieved on glucophage.

Hi there Can i point you in the direction of the PCOS boards. There is a LOT of information compiled there. I have been on Metformin for almost 8 months now. My cycles run about 28-30 days now as opposed to months without to months with AF. I do not believe i am ovulating as of yet or i am with very low progesterone levels. I do consider having AF regularly as success tho. I will add clomid to my regimine when I ttc again.

I have also lost 40+ lbs by being on metformin and cutting out some of the stuff i used to eat (minor changes) with lots of refined sugar so that is success for me too.

Good luck with it. I also wanted to mention that i started out on the regular metformin (generic for glucophage) and then to stomach upset (i am on 2000mg, higher dosage then the regularly prescribed) was switched to Metformin ER which is the extended release formula which allows me to take ALL of my pills at once, at bedtime, with such better results as far as consistancy in taking the med and gastric upset.
