clomid success rates

Hi everyone, I am glad I found this board. I rarely ovulate on my own, so my RE prescribed 100mg of Clomid for days 3-7. I have read that for women who are very overweight, the effectiveness of Clomid can be lessened. I am a size 26/28. Do any of you know any success rates for women close to my size? I am having trouble finding much online and I'm anxious about the chances of it working for me. Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the welcome, Kelly. Good luck with the injections!

I was thinking I should probably have posted more info. My only fertility issue is that I don't ovulate regularly. Everything else looks good, bloodwork and blood pressure are perfect. I am using 100mg Clomid with the trigger shot, ultrasound monitoring and IUI. If you or anyone you know are about my size and used Clomid, were follicles produced? If so, how many?

Goldie, my cycles were really long also. They have been irregular since I started having them (and I was about 140 pounds lighter then), so I went in ready to tell him that while I have been working on it, losing weight is not necessarily the fertility solution for me. My RE didn't mention my weight at all during the initial consultation. I kept waiting for him to tell me he wouldn't work with me until I was XXX pounds (another RE in town would not work with me until I got down to 230, and that is a long way for me), but he never did and it sort of shocked me. During the second visit I brought it up while asking what he thought about whether Clomid would work, and he said he is uncertain because of my weight because with larger people, the effects can be weaker. He was very positive about it, but did say it is a concern. He said if I don't respond this cycle, he will increase the Clomid and try again, but if that does not work, the plan is to lose some weight. Insurance does not cover any of this for me so injectibles are too cost prohibitive. He said we could try again every 20-30 pounds as I lose weight. He could tell that was disappointing for me and was very positive. He said we don't know yet, and if I do respond to Clomid, we'll go ahead with the IUI. He told me he treats a lot of women my size and I was so nervous I forgot to ask how successful they are! I'll ask this weekend when I go for my next ultrasound to check for follicles.

I really appreciated his plan that he would not deny treatment based on my weight. It made me feel good that he was willing to try for a few cycles. If I hadn't brought it up at my last appointment, I'm sure he would not have said anything. I have never seen any other women in his office who were even slightly overweight, so I'm glad I asked and found out he does work with others my size.

I got on the fast track to the trigger and IUI because I'm using frozen donor sperm. Fresh sperm lives much longer and the timing isn't as critical, so my understanding is that many doctors would not be as aggressive initially in those cases.

HI Tx

Welcome to the board. I did use clomid with injectables had a good response with it.
I know with injectables. Sometimes us fluffy girls have to do them IM to get better response. I never heard this about clomid. I did try to seach for some info on it. But could not find anything.

Good luck

Goldie, my cycles over the past year and a half I've been charting have been anywhere from 35-125 days and I think I ovulated twice. The average length was about 65. My OB/GYN started prescribing Provera to end the cycles and my RE did the same thing before starting the Clomid. My ultrasound is on cd12. He said he likes to do them on cd13 but that falls on Sunday (office is closed), and he is confident he will be able to tell a day early if they are growing well. If they are, the plan is to trigger the evening of cd14 and do the IUI on cd16.

Self-pay is sadly another huge stressor in this whole situation. The anxiety of TTC is already bad enough without thinking of how I'll find another $1000 every month.

I completely understand needing to find a "safe" doctor. Believe me, I understand in more ways than one. I'm so glad I found my RE, he is wonderful.

Hi again
I asked sort of the same question at a different forum and the explanation I got was that when you have problems getting pregnant taking something like clomid basically brings your chances up to normal. Unfortunatly I think that "normal" is only like 20% a cycle. I personally would like to think it is a super drug and I will become pregnant right away (thats what I tell myself so the hot flashes and super ***** attitude seem worth it) Good luck TX

I'm fine with normal chances! I just hope I respond so I'll have any sort of chance. I know what you mean about wanting it to be the magic pill, though - especially when things cost so much.

Wow, you are not kidding about the ***** attitude. My last dose of Clomid was last night and hopefully now life will be a little more normal. From what I understand, I have hot flashes coming up, though.

hi again!

I definatly found those hot flashes and other fun side effects were with me for quite awhile after I was done the clomid and low and behold I found out I didn't even O on that dosage. All that time and *****iness and BD was wasted!! AAARRRGGHHHH And I felt so different this time I even had major bad cramping around CD 14 and 15 so I thought for sure. Oh well. We will get it figured out!! Good luck to you !

Oh I remeber the mood swings. Don't think I will ever forget. I went to look for a new car while on clomid. Not something I would suggest to do. I am normaly a level mood person. But clomid made me a witch.lol
