Success with Clomid after Metformin?

Hey ladies, I have a question. Have any of you with pcos had success with Clomid after adding Metformin? I did 3 cycles at 50, 100 then 150mg with absolutely no responce. I have been on Met for 6 months and am starting Clomid again as soon as AF apears and that should be soon since I just finnished Provera. Thanks you!!

Bobbie,

I never had any success with Clomid. After a few failed Clomid cycles, my RE decided to take me off it. He didn't see any reason to waste time taking it over and over again if my body wasn't reacting to it.

Good luck and keep us posted with your Clomid experience!

Jeanette

My RE said that if I don't respond after this cycle with clomid + metformin we will add injections. I am still new to this. We have been seeking treatment for a year. We ttc on our own for 2 years. Hopefully I will see a responce. Thanks for sharing!

Hi there Bobbie,
Adding the Metformin to the Clomid, is definetaly worth a go, just keep your chin up!, as I am positive that the more you worry each month wether or not you are going to ovulate, the stress can actually prevent your body doing it I was diagnosed with PCOS at 19 yrs old (only weighing in at 50kg, which was actually very underweight according to my doctor, so weight had nothing to do with me getting it, but since being diagnosed, my weight has skyrocketed with the fertility treatments). I was originally on clomid for 2 years, with no success, (my fertility specialist told me that the tests showed my hormone levels were lower than a menopausal womans. I then had the ovarian drilling procedure, with absolutely no response to it, I just got a secondary infection at the surgery site. Next followed more months of Clomid, without even 1 Ovulation. I then went in for the ovarian wedge resection procedure which my specialist had only ever done a couple of times in his whole career of 25 years as he sad that it is a very barbaric procedure, with a long recovery time, and it is VERY painful. After that, he hit me with the metformin, and the clomid at a level of 150mg,,,,,finally success. For further pregnancies, I also used metformin and the clomid together, and have had some success, but have also lost 2 pregnancies, one at 6 weeks, the other was my 30 week little princess, without cause. My first live birth was also premmie, at 28 weeks, which makes me think that maybe my specialist should have let me keep taking the met throughout as I have been reading alot about how it helps keep pregnancy's going with the PCOS.

All in all, though, dont give up, the road may be very long, but you just gotta believe, cause i know from experience, as it took 4 years of constant fertility treatments for us, and we are now blessed with 4 healthy boys

25/July/96 DS 28week premmie
29/Nov/97 DD 30 week stillbirth (mummy's angel #1)
16/Sept/98 Miscarraige @ 6weeks (mummy's angel #2)
04/April/00 DS full term c/section
14/May/02 DS full term c/section
04/Sept/03 DS full term c/section (suprise gift pregnancy,6 weeks after gallbladder removal surgery)

Today is Day 7 of my cycle. I just finnished 5 days of Clomid. Between the moodiness and hot-flashes I am glad I took the last pill today. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this month will be our month. I have been on Met for almost 7 months now. Hopefully it will do the trick.

4stgal - Were you on Met when you mc?

Thanks ladies!!

Metformin user

Hi Ladies,
I am new here. I myself have been on metformin 1000mg's. 3 1/2 years of trying to concieve. Doctor wanted to boost up to 1500mg, the stomach was feeling sick, and running to the washroom all day didn't cut it.(back down to 1000mg a day) I have been on metformin since Feb.2005 and still on it with no luck of concieving. Praying and hoping all the time. I am starting super ovulation 8/2005, Clomid, HCG and IUI. I have read lots of information that's it's still possible for us that are using the metformin we are still able to concieve on our own. Let's pray for us metformin ladies to concieve soon.

Bobbie, yes, I was on Met when I was pg. Since it was my 3rd pg, the dr thought it would help me stay pg this time. Obviously it didn't work. I have read that it helps and that it doesn't. Because I got further on this pg with the Met, I plan to continue it.
