So I went to see my OB yesterday..FINALLY!!! He first walked into the room and instantly was asking why I was so skinny. Ummm, ok, first of all, I'm skinny because I want to be, not because I'm being unhealthy and second of all, I'm not that skinny. Apparently I look really skinny to somebody who hasn't seen me in a few months or longer. I just saw him in I think April. I'm not unhealthy either. So once we got that all ironed out and he finished asking me if I'm starving myself or something, he let his medical student get all her history and physical done. Then he came back in and they did my pelvic and pap. No big deal. So I got out my little list of everything I've documented about how much I've been bleeding, etc. I started asking him about it. He told me that first off, I'm anti coagulated so I'm more prone to bleeding...ok well I knew that, thanks!! 2nd of all, doesn't look like I'm Oing on my own every month and thats why I'm all over the place of when AF comes. Then he says I'm too skinny and skinny people don't O and have regular periods. Ok, that I knew, but I'm not too skinny. I'm 5 foot tall and 106 pounds and I find it interesting that I was at the doctor a month ago and he didn't say a word about me being "too" skinny. I Oed last month and had a regular period, it was awesome!!!! I didn't bleed as heavy, it didn't hurt as bad and I wasn't nearly as bloated as I usually am. So I guess it isn't true that I'm too skinny because I do have a period every month and I do O on my own occasionally. He informed me that I wasn't heavy to begin with, I told him well I had enough extra that I could get myself into shape. So as far as why I bleed all the time, my u/s done in April showed nothing...ie: no fibroids or polyps and my lining was fine. So I said what about a hormone imbalance. He said it could be that, but that I'm too skinny and so my hormones are probably all over the place. He did, however, tell me that if I felt the need for a workup that he would be glad to help me. We decided that surgery wasn't a good option right now because it probably wouldn't show us anything. He said he didn't see the need for me to spend money on something that wasn't going to show us anything more then we knew. So basically I need to gain more weight. Ummm....I don't think so!!!!! I've worked very hard to get where I am. Besides that, I don't know how to just gain and few pounds and stay there. If I go back to eating like I was and not working out, I'm just going to gain it all back. I was kinda thinking that I would start gaining weight in muscle with some of these classes, but so far no good. We talked about meds and things that they usually do for people who bleed too much. I can't be on any of those because of my clotting disorder. No BCPs, IUDs or even if we do some hormone testing, if there was an imbalance we wouldn't be able to fix it. He said he could do some surgery, but that would take away my fertility. Yes I know, like a hyst or an ablation or something. So I guess I just get to live with it. I got no where and I was thinking about it this morning and it just kinda ticks me off I guess. I can't figure out why everyone thinks I'm starving myself. I eat all the time, I just eat good stuff and not as much, plus I go to the gym 4 days a week. But you know, the more I thought about it, the more I kinda of understand. We aren't used to seeing people who are normal sized. This day and age, everyone is large and unhealthy. So when you see someone who is the size they should be, it looks very small so then they get concerned. Thoughts on this anyone???

I'm barging, hope you don't mind. My first thought is this: You need a second opinion from another doctor. This one seems hung up on your weight and wants to blame everything abnormal on you being perfectly normal, which makes no sense at all. He doesn't want to consider anything else, so he's not even going to check bloodwork? Really? He's just told you there's nothing he can do for you, period, even if you do convince (!) him to do bloodwork and it finds something. I know you have a clotting disorder, but you are not the only woman in the world to have it and some of them have had children (including DH's grandmother and that was with WAY less knowledge than we have now), so there has to be research and info. out there somewhere. Honestly, it sounds to me like he just doesn't want to do the work to try and help you. Sorry to say that, it sounds mean, but it's what it sounds like from here.

I want to say, too, that I plugged you into a woman's BMI calculator and it does show you as underweight. By a whopping one pound. 107 was in 'normal/healthy' - so I'm not even sure where he's getting his attitude that you are way too skinny.
Raising children is like being pecked to death by chickens.

Oh Erin- I am so sorry. What a jerk.. really. I mean, if he cant help you, why wouldn't he suggest other options. I know you have worked really hard to get where you are. That I am proud of. Well, Im not even sure where to go from here, but maybe a 2nd opinion like 3boys2luv suggested?

You both bring up good points. I talked to Dh about it alittle bit and he said that he offered to check blood work so it doesn't sound like hes throwing his hands up in the air yet. The problem is if I did hormone testing and it found something, what would they do about it?? They can't do anything about it. I can't be on any hormones. I'm not really even sure who I would go to. I was thinking about my RE, but my INS doesn't cover me to go there I don't think. When I called them they said it depended on how they billed it, so I don't know what that means and I'd rather not go through a bunch of testing to get a huge bill in the mail. I don't know, I'll keep thinking about it and keep watching everything and decide what I'm going to do. I tell you what I'm not doing, I'm NOT gaining any weight back. I refuse!!!! I have a pageant to get ready for in March so I have to look good. I'll keep you posted. I don't mind anyone barging in, no worries!!!! Thank you for your thoughts ladies!!!

Well this past Thursday I went to see Hemo for my 4 month check up that I have every 4 months. This time when we compared my weight with my past it showed that I've lost 50lbs in the last 2 years!!! I think thats great and exciting!!! She didn't agree so much. This time instead of being asked if I was eating, she asked me if I was throwing up. NO WAY!!!! I HATE nothing more then to throw up, I don't understand how people can do it for fun. I guess thats the way the brain works, but not mine!!! So I had to tell her exactly what I eat everyday, how much I exercise, etc. She ran a bunch more tests on me just to make sure everything is ok and I have to now see a dietician. She has told me I have to gain weight. So her exact words were eat healthy, continue exercising and gain weight......WHAT does that mean?? I'm still trying to figure out how to do that. I haven't figured it out yet. The other thing is that I haven't had AF since July 22. They ran a beta on me as well. I would assume that if it showed something I would've heard on Friday, but heard nothing so I'm assuming it was negative. I'm planning to call tomorrow if I don't hear anything. I'm not expecting anything, but I'm assuming I'm just not getting it because my hormones are all wacked out because I've lost a lot of weight. Who knows. The good news is I haven't had any weird bleeding!!!! I had a 30 day cycle in June/July and had a 5 day AF and just a little spotting over Labor Day weekend and thats been it!!! Its been awesome!!! So I'm just very frusterated because I used to be this skinny and never had problems like that and how do I gain just enough weight to get my cycles going again without gaining too much weight. Like I said before, I have a pagenat to be ready for in March so I don't want to gain any weight. The thing is, I'm not underweight either so I'm really confused. I'm 5 foot tall and 109lbs. That puts my BMI at 21 and I'm not underweight until I'm at a BMI of 18.5. Any suggestions?? I'm not against seeing a dietician. In fact, I had some questions for him/her anyway! Thanks ladies!!

Great news! You can check online to see what your BMI is. I check it for ya and it says your BMI is 19.1 You've done a great job getting it all off!!! Loosing a lot of weight, will make the hormones all wacky since its not trying so hard now to nourish all the extra pounds you had. Maybe tone down on the exercising but continue to eat well?
Underweight = <18.5
Normal weight = 18.5–24.9
Overweight = 25–29.9
Obesity = BMI of 30 or greater*~* Proud Mommy of *~*

Thanks Tasha!!! I did check it online and it said 21 or whatever I wrote up there. Oh well, either way I'm not underweight....which I knew already. She is just freaking out for no reason. She ran a bunch of b/w and I got 3 VMs today from the nurse regarding results. They drew a prealbumin which measures my nurishment levels and it was 20 so perfectly normal, gee, imagine that!!!! They drew a beta and it was negative, again not suprised. They drew a thyroid level and iron studies all were normal. So I guess I'm not so unhealthy afterall. The nurse said that all looked good so I'm doing everything the right way and losing weight slowly and eating healthy. Just as I figured, I'm not suprised. I'm just normal sized. Part of the problem with my hormones could be the amount of stress which is caused by my job. I'm noticing the more that I sit back and watch and think about the days that I am under more stress then I thought. Its getting busier around there and its only going to get worse. I worked 17 hours last Friday, thank goodness was off the weekend and then I worked another 12 today. We are short handed but we have 2 people hired, they are just on orientation for awhile yet. Looking to have them off next month but don't think its really going to happen that quickly. So otherwise, they are wanting to run 5 and 6rooms which would require about 8 scrub people, well we only have 4 and between the 4 of us are trying to cover all these cases, plus working late shifts and taking a ton of call. Our 3-11 guy has to have mondays and fridays off for school so we have to work our day shift plus cover his evening shift twice a week. Its a lot. I counted my call hours today and for this pay period and the next, I have 112 hours of call. Already have 13 hours of overtime and theres still 6 days left of this pay period. This little body can't take much more I don't think. Anyway, perhaps that can be part of my hormone problem. Well thanks for letting me vent. I did work 12 hours today and so I didn't get an evening. Its already time for bed!!! Good night ladies!!
