We had a weird experience.....

I haven't been able to get on for a few days. Old computer kept locking up so tax refund came and we have a new one. But our weird experience was last week. On Thursday, we received a call at about 9pm asking if we could take 4 children as an emergency placement. They had busted a meth lab and had to place them right away as all the adults in the home (6) were in jail. They were 16, 15, 14, and 12. We said we would so we went to pick them up and of course I had no food in the house and they hadn't eaten so off to the 24 hour grocery store they went. I finally coaxed them all into bed at midnight. The older ones were upset and worried about where they were going to end up. The younger one was a ball of energy and funny. He seemed sort of relieved. They thought our home was a mansion. It is by no means that. The next morning they were all pretty subdued for a couple hours. The oldest one slept until 11. The caseworker was suppose to call me that morning and let me know about the meeting. I finally called her at 10. They had found 3 of the childrens mother. Turns out the older child was just visiting. Case of wrong place at the wrong time. The mother is on probation so if she tested negetive on a drug screen she could take them and she was negetive. The 15 year old was so releived. The older ones father was going to pick him up. We get to CS and the older one walks right past his father like he doesn't know him. Turns out his dad is higher than a kite and he cant take him but they let him go with the other kids mom. Crazy, since she came there with this guy. The youngest one asked me 3 times to come and get them sometime for a visit. I didn't have the heart to tell him that would not be possible. It was quite interesting while they were here. They were pretty well behaved. Of course, they were not even hear for 24 hours. I tell you I would have kept the 2 younger ones. They were really funny and wanted to help me around the house. The caseworker said that she might call me if they come into care. There is no way I could handle them all for very long. I already have my three girls.

On a differnt note, we go to a staffing for a 10 year old boy on March 3. We are very excited. I think my dh is feeling overwhelmed with all the women in the house. LOL. We shall see how it goes. There are 2 other families that will be at the staffing too.

Thanks for listening. God bless
Karen

Karen,
That's great you were able to take the 4 children in overnight. I can't imagine taking 4 at once and teenagers at that. Your a brave woman!

Good luck with your staffing!
