Why can't he have eggs?
Hi girls. I have a question...
At Christian's 9 month appointment, the ped ran down the list of all the DO NOT'S. I am not guilty of most things, such as milk, honey, etc. However I didn't even thing about peanut butter until it was too late. And, EGGS. I gave him peanut butter (1 tsp. of reduced fat) a month or so ago. Stupid mom! I didn't even think about peanut allergies b/c nobody I know has it. And, the ped hadn't mentioned it before (probably b/c he didn't think he had to). Anyway, he loved it and didn't have a reaction to it. Thank GOD! I realize now that it could've killed him if he was allergic to peanuts! So...what's up w/ the eggs? Of course he's had eggs before...just a tiny bit off of my mom's breakfast sandwich and seemed to love it. I rolled my eyes when the ped said NO EGGS b/c once again...I'm the worst mom alive! I didn't know! Guess those books are good for something. I let my family know that he can't have milk, eggs, peanut butter, honey, etc. after the appointment. But, I forgot to tell the babysitter. She has 2 kids and I didn't even think to tell her b/c of her mommy experience. Well, I got home Wednesday and she showed me his schedule for the day. I see for lunch he had Scrambled eggs w/ cheese. I didn't say anything to her b/c she said most of it ended up in his lap anyways, but is it something I should really discuss w/ her? I will tell her what the ped said about everything, but she knows I'm kind of relaxed w/ his eating. I just want him to eat! She feeds him deli meat and cheese & chopped hot dogs, yogurt & baby food (veggies/fruits) like I told her to. But, she likes to get creative (yes, she's REALLY into her job!). So....is the egg thing really a big deal????Thanks for reading my rambling! Any advice on this would be helpful. As you can tell - I'm SO still learning how to be a mommy! to you all!OH! And, here's our boy standing by himself on Saturday. He's really got the hang of it. He has started swinging his arms and getting excited while standing alone now! This week he's been working on standing up from sitting. That's a tough one!

lurking here---certainly don't beat yourself up over the peanut butter and the eggs. I'm clueless about the eggs as our ped. told us to try scrambled eggs and grits when dh was first eating solids. Hmmmm? Wonder what his reasoning is.

Jill,
They can have egg yolks but not egg whites. I think the risk of allergies is too high with the whites. We have steered clear so far, but will be trying scrambled eggs after he turns 1. DD loved them when we started her on them. Tanner will also be trying peanut butter. We will hold off on the honey until he is 2. That is for batulism(sp?) reasons. Their little intestines can't fight it off until around 2 and can mean big trouble for them! They started Tanner on milk at 11 months old. We started mixing 1/2 milk and 1/2 formula. They gave me the go ahead 2 weeks ago to completely switch him off of the formula (11.5 months old) because he was tolerating whole milk without problem. I am telling you, doctors should line everything out and give it to us the day we announce we are pregnant! You are not a bad mommy! You were just uninformed and to no fault of your own! You are a GREAT mommy! Way to go Christian!

Don't worry about it. I gave Andrew eggs too before I realized they weren't supposed to have egg whites. I did know about the peanut butter, but there was no way I was waiting until 2 or 3 like some docs recommend. I gave it to him at a year and thank God he eats it because it's really the only protein he'll eat now.
He's so cute. LOVE that monkey shirt!

Egg whites can be an allergenic food. Egg yolks are safe. I've been making scrambled egg yolks for several months and the girls just gobble them up. At 1 year, you can do egg whites.

I was vaguely aware of it, but I forgot and gave Sophie some egg. Later the doc reminded me not to give eggs and I told her that I already did. She was fine with it. Sophie loves quiche!!

I had no Idea at all about the egg thing. While in the UK I gave Amy baby food Egg Custard. This was baby food so I figured it would be ok. What do I know? One thing I found Amazing there is that in the UK they have a LOT of foods for babies from 4 months of Age that here in the US the pedi's tell us not to give our babies, Bizarre if you ask me that what is OK there is not ok here.
One other thing I wanted to mention is that at Amy's last Pedi appointment her pedi told me that it was ok to start Amy on cows milk but just a little at a time. Not to suppliment cows milk for formula but it was OK to give her now. I just do not know what is right or wrong to give Amy any more. I just go with my gut instinct. Love the picture of Christian standing up, How adorable! Jill you had better get those running shoes on soon
