IVF & Tax Deductions

Hey gals. Here is my question... I'm assuming that my IVF & accompanying meds are tax deductible. Now I know you have to hit the 7% of income... and we blew past that... thanks to the Attain Program up-front charge, meds & everything else associated with this process. So, if I understand correctly, we can deduct anything past the 7% of income on our taxes. So, (for easy math) if we made 100k this year & spent 20k on medical, the first 7k is not deductible, but the additional 13k is. Does anyone know if I have this right? I'm just adding up the bills for the year & getting a little dizzy with the big numbers... trying to find a silver lining.

The positive thing is if we don't get a BFP on our current cycle, we know to raise our Flex Spending Account for next year.

Momsie-

I don't know about the taxes but how did it work with Attain? They pay everything up front? Even the meds? Did you have to get your meds from a specific place they only use? We are looking into them. Thanks!!

Attain & Integramed are the same program. You pay an up-front fee and get 3 fresh cycles & 3 frozen cycles. I had partial insurance coverage (has now run out) and for those people that do have partial coverage, their program is a little cheaper. It does NOT cover meds & those are about 3-4k each cycle. Hopefully your insurance will help with those. Since I had partial insurance coverage, it did not pay for monitoring bloodwork & ultrasounds or meds... but everything else is covered... oh... it also doesn't pay for cryopreservation.

So far, I've been happy with them. We had one unsucessful try & we're working on try #2.
