IVF Cost Question...Can anyone help???
Hi Ladies,
I need a little help. I've been searching and searching trying to find the best way to maximize my dollars for IVF treatment, I've even stooped to bargaining and deal making. I have no shame , I want this. Anyway, it's not set in stone but I was offered IVF to include all my monitoring, retrieval, icsi, transfer, cryopreservation (freezing) all pregnancy tests and one gestational sonogram for under 13k. It would not include meds or anesthesia, I would still have to pay for that. Also, if I don't get pregnant I can do a Frozen Transfer for 1/2 price? Does this sound good? I want to make the right decision. Chris

HI christal
I used a clinic outside of Los angeles called Fertility & surgical associates. I absolutely love the doctors and they have a pretty amazing priced 3 cycle plan.. that really works out if you have limited $$. The 3 cycle plan costs $3900 up front for all drs fees+ $2925 in lab costs, which is covers egg retrieval, transfert and embryologt costs. You pay $400 to the anesthesiologist separately and $60 per lab test. (ive never needed more than $400 in lab test). So 1 full cycle cost without meds is $7800. The great news is that if the cycle is not successful, you only pay the additional $2925 for each of the 2 subsequent cycles. All in all you can get up to 3 cycles for just about $13,000. It worked for me.. and I currently pregnant and two cycles left over, which I can use now or for a second child ( if Im not carrrying twins... a possibility) They are located in Thousand Oaks Ca and Dr Hubert is fantastic. The care is much better that other clinics I have been to. Best of luck. As far as reducing med costs, check out ivfmeds.com... or pm me and I can send you a few other links. |

Hello,
Not too sure when you posted your question or where you're living, but wanted to tell you about the cost in Nv. I live in Reno and we have the #7 doc in the country. He is amazing but it is quite expensive, so if your offer is from a good doc, I would jump on it. In reno IVF is approx $15,000. I had mine paid for through a study, except for meds and anesthesia, so I paid about $3500. I ended up with severe OHSS so I froze my embryos, and am doing FET. FET is individually priced here but ours is $2275.00 for doc and embryologist fees and a couple thousand for meds depending on how long you need to have injections. For IVF anesthesia is $500. It all really adds up, and we have limited funds as well. So definitely go where you can get a good doc and good price. Hope it helps! Nikki |

Hi there! This was a study being conducted by DuraMed. They are trying to get a progesterone vaginal ring approved. So rather than do daily progesterone injections and suppositories at bedtime, you just wear the ring 24 hrs a day for two weeks. You change the ring every two weeks. It would have been a dream come true but because I got so sick with OHSS my cycle was cancelled so now we have to do the injections. I only know what my doc and nurse told me, but if you're interested in calling them to ask about whether it is still ongoing, just send me a pm and I'll be happy to send you names and numbers. The office here is full of really wonderful people and the study may be ongoing, as we were a part of it just 6 months ago. I know they could only accept 52 people from Nv and 1000 total in the US but it never hurts to try. Good luck to you. I hope that you find a great doctor or can get into this study.

So lost when it comes to this
I too am thinking about how I am going to pay for this and if I am getting a good deal or not. My RE said $5900 for the procedure and all the other stuff and $2000 for meds. not sure if I am going to get cheaper. Now I am thinking that I need to ask what that $5900 entails. Now I have more to ask. Thanks!

christal,
I dont know where you live, but in Ohio where I live, a round of IVF cost around 6,500 to 9,000. Not including your meds. But Im sure that all depends on cost of living and where you are going. The places in Ohio where we have gone and others we are looking into going have very good reputations and it doesnt cost that much. But like I said it is probably different everywhere you go or where you live. Hope it all works out for you. Just make sure you go somewhere where your doc will listen to you and what you are comfortable with. It was always important to me that I had a major say in what decisions were made for my body and my embryos. God bless. Good luck!!! |

kailiajade, when I started out, I had no idea what was included or excluded before I started comparing the prices from two different clinics.
Tests done before a cycle starts are usually excluded. For the woman, these may include Day 3 FSH and E2 bloodwork, tests and cultures to establish that you don't have any venereal diseases, a transvaginal ultrasound, etc. Sometimes a HSG, chromopertubation or hysterosalpingogram are necessary for us gals. The men have their own bloodtests for hormone levels and semen analysis. Sometimes insurance covers the above tests, even if you don't have infertility benefits. In terms of cycle costs, ask if the following are included: - Monitoring (baseline bloodwork and ultrasound, and then a monitoring apointment usually every 2nd day of stims, and a beta hCG pregnancy test) - Egg Retrieval - Embryo Transfer - Anesthesia - Embryo freezing and storage, etc. Genetic tests (PGD), ICSI and assisted hatching are usually excluded. My clinic does ICSI for everyone, so it's included in their price. |
