Ways to save $$ to do IVF

What are you doing to save $$ to do IVF?

Have a good day
  • I use to buy books, now I borrow from the library. Use to have a big Amazon habit, trying to break it! My library lets us reserve the books online to borrow and sends an email when it's available. It's awesome!
  • If I do buy, I buy bargain books. I was having a bad day yesterday and went to Borders to clear my head. I ended up buying a bunch of bargain baby books. Hopefully I'll be able to read it to my little one next year (knock on wood, hopefully I will be pregnant with my next IVF)
  • Borrow videos/DVDs from the library for FREE. I just learned about that from a friend last year and borrowed tons! (I learned from her son about tip #1)
  • Sell un-used items on craigslist (that's my IVF fund)
  • Reduce home tel bill to bare minium. Mostly used for faxes so no need to have caller id for faxes. Use cell for telephone calls.
  • Can't save on cable and Tivo. I love them too much!
  • Bath and Body Works & Victoria Secret: I try to buy only during the half year sales. Unfortunately their last one was during my miscarriage, and I wasn't in the mood for shopping.
  • Unplugging appliances when not in use
  • Gas bill suddenly going high? Found out from a relative, that somehow their water heater had been raised to HIGH, so that is why their gas bill was been going up for the last 6 months. And they been using the same usage the whole time.
  • Changing all light bulbs to the energy bulbs. Bed Bath and Beyond is selling a set of 4 for as low as $2.99. Only some stores not all BB&B. I noticed Lowe's sell some at that price, too.
Love to hear what you are doing!

Borders VS Barnes and Nobles

I went to Barnes and Nobles the other day while I had some spare time waiting to pick up my mother from her doctor's appointment.

Barnes and Nobles bargain books are MORE expensive than Borders.

To Barnes and Noble, a bargain is over $5.

To Borders, a bargain is $1.00 and up. To me, that's a bargain!

I purchased a pregnancy relaxation (for next time 2ww) box with CD and other goodies that was marked $4.99, but it was $1 at the checkout! The plastic wrap was ripped, but not a big deal to me since I was going to unwrap it to use it anyways.

AND... Barnes and Nobles charges $20 for membership to save $$ on the books they sell.

WHILE... Borders membership is for free! Plus they have a rewards program.

Enjoy readers! Have a good weekend

Starbucks Rewards

In case anyone drinks Starbucks and was not told.

Starbucks has a rewards program if you use your Starbucks card to buy coffee.

You have to register your Starbucks card online.

You save on soy milk, etc.

I save $.60 cents now every time I buy my coffee with soy milk.

More Ideas

Everyone is giving some great ideas for saving $$$. My husband and I will be doing our first round of IVF in January. This round will be partially covered(about 1/2) by insurance. For the rest, I've maxed out my flexible spending account at work so at least it will be non-taxable $$.

When I found out I was pregnant in April (had m/c in May), we started a baby fund account through ING direct. They w/d directly from my regular checking account whatever amount I specify. I set this up as an automatic payment so that I be sure to save it each month.

We sold lots of stuff over craigslist. Be sure to post pictures and include good descriptions.

Also, there's a huge demand for gold right now. If you have any old chains or rings that you don't wear anymore, you can probably get a good price for them.

If we wind up doing more than one round, I was thinking of getting a 0% credit card.....some are offering more than 12 months. We could put a large amount on there. The trick is to make sure you divide the total by the number of months of 0%. Make sure to pay that amount each month. You don't want to be stuck with a balance at the end.

Good luck to everyone!

Seasonal jobs

I have a seasonal position at Bath & Body Works to earn more $$ for my next IVF cycle.

They are still hiring

Ways to save money...

I love this idea from a friend of mine....

She organized a poker night with friends, and the pot gets split 50/50 -1/2 to the IVF fund and half to the winner.

Choosing the right clinic makes a huge difference, though, too.

wishing you joy,
