Lifetime Max after switiching insurance

Hi,

Our current insurance has a lifetime max of 12,000 for infertility. I have a chance to change insurance every year.

Does anyone know what happens to the lifetime max if I switch my insurance?

I am thinking it would be reset since I would be in a different insurance already and would be subjected to limitations required by the new insurance.

Thanks for advice.

If anyone interested to know, I called our Benefits center and they confirmed that my lifetime max for IF will reset if I change my insurance company. We are grateful that our company offers choices for insurance and two of them have good coverage.

I think it depends on which insurance company you are switching to. You should check with your RE's billing dept. since they have the most experience in this area.

I think the lifetime max is set by your employer - not the insurance company. For example, I have Aetna w/ a lifetime max of $30K for fertility. All my employer's other healthcare insurance options also have a $30K max. I can't just switch to Oxford and reset after I use that $30K. I would have to switch jobs or sign up for coverage under my DH's plan and switch insurance companies.

I had coverage for 3 IUIs with my insurance co. When I specifically asked the insur co about the lifetime max (the max is 3IUI) I was told that even if I switch insur co that a lifetime max is lifetime it doesnt matter if its a new insur co.

I wonder if thats just in PA?
