    Question about fibroids and estrogen

Hello- I currently am starting my 4th ivf cycle with a new RE. Two out of three past cycles i got pregnant but one was chemical and the other miscarried at6 weeks. I have a 5cm intramural fibroid which most REs say should come out. I do not want surgery and am continuing to move forward with my 4th cycle. This new RE wants to do estrogen priming protocol however i am wondering if this month of taking estrogen will cause my fibroid to grow even more. Any thoughts? I have an appointment tomorrow so i will discuss it further but looking for any feedback. Thanks ladies!

If I were you I would get the fibroid removed before moving forward. I had a fibroid as well and it caused all kinds of problems with implantation. I had it removed and was able to get pg within a couple of months.

That's encouraging BC-blu_sky. I've just got clearance to start trying again. I was also told that my fibroids would interfere with implantation. Natural trying didn't work, BFP didn't work. Getting them out has even made me feel better because I don't feel like I have rocks in my gut.

I was speaking to someone today who knew someone who had fibroids and apparently although they did get pregnant and gave birth to a healthy baby, the pregnancy was hell at the end (it was a close call for a while).

Hi. I have a friend who had two losses due to a fibroid. Sh had the fibroid removed and now She is now 30 weeks pregnant. It's not just implantation it effects but also can cause early loss. I say try again, and if you still have problems get it removed. I have one on the outside of my uterus so I have been lucky!

I'd have it removed before another IVF cycle, if it were me. Good luck

Hi, I read your post ad wanted to give my piece of info as well.

Fibroids are triggered by estrogens, so to answer your question, yes, is likely that estrogen will make your fibroid grow.

I had one submucousal fibroid (inside the uterus) removed in August -had 3 RE opinion, 3 of them said I had to remove it.
Removed it but still no luck.
    It totally sucks.

I am not going to have the fibroid out, although I know everyone on here suggests I should. I am moving forward with my 4th IVF cycle and hoping for success.

Mika - I am sorry to hear no luck yet! It TOTALLY SUCKS!! We have no control over anything in this process. Everything is unknown. I pray you get your BFP soon!!

I am just curious why you wouldn't want it removed?

Surgery is a major decision and one i no longer take lightly. I have had two major surgeries not related to IF and one of those routine surgeries almost killed me. I was supposed to be in and out of the hospital the same day and never left for six weeks and while there got blood poisoning and had 108 fever and almost died. I had to go home after six weeks of being in the hospital only to come back two weeks later for another open surgery. I missed six months of school and it was a nightmare. This was not at a fly by night hospital either but insteas was one of the top in nyc. So with that said unless a doctor can tell me that my fibroid IS the cause of my passed cycles i will not proceed with an elective surgery lightly. I have learned from passed surgeries i heal in kealoid and scar horribly so concerns of what scarring would go on from this surgery come to my mind. I have known many woman without fibroids who have miscarriages and go on to conceive and my gut says no surgery. I follow my gut and it is usually right. I know people reading about my fibroid think i should have it out but i am not at that point right now. Maybe this will be my successful cycle. I prefer to think it possibly could be rather then doom because of this stupid fibroid. Who knows. Time will tell.

Well I wish you the best of luck. In my case it wasn't until I had a lap for endo that my doctor actually saw how much my fibroid was impeding my ability to get pregnant and carry. My only suggestion would be to not rule it out entirely. I can understand your hesitation based on your history though. I hope this next cycle is the one that works for you!
