Symptoms???

Hello*!!! I was wondering what leads people to surgery??? Are there symptoms that need to be addressed??? I have been having mid cycle bleeding...and well I am quite concerned about that. It doesn;t seem "natural". This is something that has "popped-up" in the past year or so. I have been reading and I m leaning towards fibroids. Also my mom was dx'd with them at around the same age....she opted for a hysto at the age of 34 because she (more my dad) was done havng children....So should I be worried....should I question more with my GYN ( I see next month)....I am not looking for another issue me if issues, but U just want to look at everything right now. We have to sit out of TX for the time being....so if issues need to be brought up I guess now would be the time.

well clink to you!

I am the pro on Fibroids Val but I have several, even after they tool out 40.
They can see with an ultrasound how many and how severe...mid cycle bleeding and irregular periods are symptoms, pain with intercourse, (never had that) lower back pain....they are hereditary so I would definitely bring it up at your Obgyn.........

Hugs and odka to you!

Hi, QV:

I had surgery 5 weeks ago because my RE wouldn't do IVF because of the location and size of my fibroids. My uterus was at 16 weeks, and it was listing to the right side because the fibroids had pushed it over.

I thought I was asymptomatic, because they weren't affecting my periods, but now that those suckers are out, I realize just how much they affected my life. I can hold my bladder now for HOURS rather than minutes, and I'm getting my energy back. Plus, it's a whole lot easier to exercise if you don't feel like you're hauling a sack of rocks between your pelvic bones.

And it turns out that though I wasn't "asymtomatic", meaning I wasn't having periods from hell like other ladies have, I was getting close to it. One of the fibroids (the 8cm monster) was closing in on the uterine lining and it was just a matter of time.

Knowing now what I didn't know then (the doctor I had at the time didn't raise the alarm about the fibroids as I think she should have), I wish I would have had them out 3 years ago. They create such a gradual inconvenience that you don't even realize how much they bother you until they are gone.

There's a really good website that deals with fibroid issues. I don't think I can post the link, but if you search for "geek" "inquisitive" and "fibroids", it will come up.

Good luck and if you have any other questions, feel free to ask. I check the board about 3 times a day.

Dixie

I had a fibroid removed five years ago the size of a golf ball, and my symptoms were painful periods that kept going in the form of spotting for days. It would start, stop, start stop. It was very frustrating. Those were the only two symptoms I had. JAS
