I had a abdominal myomectomy in may and now I'm 6 weeks preganat and I am not a rare thing.I have read a lot of storys like mine when I first started thinking about getting the myo. I did not know I had fibriods untill I had a mc in jan 09. My docter said I had 6 small fibriods ranging in size from 2cm to 7 cm, and I could eather keep trying and risk multiple mc or get them out and increase the odds of getting pregnat and carring to full term. Well I did the surgery and here we are. I am still worried about mc but so far eveything looks great.

Hey all,
I am so sorry for taking so long to reply, I want to thank you all for responding to my post. I am wishing you all the best in your journey and hopefully may all your wishes come true. I am still hanging there as the days are getting closer to my delivery, just can't wait to meet this new person. My advice to you all, is to take your time when BD, try to relax as much as you can when trying cause it can be very stressfull. I had to use a calendar to help me figure out my longer and shorter cycle, which was very helpfull since my cycle was anywhere between 31-36 days. I bought an ovulation kit, and I also bought me some pre-seed to help me stay in the mood and keep me moist (TMI) sorry to you all, but I just wanted to share with you all my little journey. Hope it helps and Good luck to you all!!!

I had a myomectomy on last Tuesday (Dec15th) to remove a 3 fibroids. This was after a failed IVF cycle in July/Aug of this year. My RE also removed my right falopian tube and opened the left. All clear.

I go back on the 30th for my follow-up so that we can determine the next steps regarding TTC. I'm not sure if I want to go the IVF route again without trying ala natural. We will see.

For those of you who have had the procedure (myomectomy), what was your recovery like? I am finding that i am in more pain that I was after I delivered my son via c-section 12years ago- and I'm 5 days post-op.

If you're having a myomectomy, the best advice I can give you is to walk, walk, walk, walk, walk as soon as you can, as much as you can stand it. My surgery was on a Monday morning and I had the catheter and morphine pump off by early Tuesday afternoon. That first trip to the bathroom can be EXTREMELY painful. You must take it slowly and carefully. But it gets easier from then on. I took my first walk down the hall that evening, and then gradually increased my walking each day until I was doing 15 minutes 4 times a day. I was discharged on a Thursday afternoon, and continued increasing my walking during the 6 weeks of recovery until I was up to pre-surgery speed.

The walking helps get your intestines back in line and helps you pass gas, which will feel DIVINE when it starts to happen.

The other big tip - DO NOT SKIP YOUR PAIN MEDS. I was on morphine the first 24 hours, then on Oxycodin and another prescription-grade pain reliever.
The nurses will dole this out to you, so you have to keep aware of WHEN you're supposed to get it (I think every 4 hours) and make sure you DO get it.
When you go home, stay on the schedule (I had my husband wake me up at night to make sure I got it) then gradually start weaning off after two weeks.
The Oxycodin is there to trick your brain into thinking you have no pain - the prescription grade pain reliever keeps the inflammation down. But it's like Advil, you have to keep taking it for it to work.

It'll be slow for about 3 weeks, and then around week 4 you'll start feeling like yourself, except you'll need naps. By week 6, you'll be able to handle 8 hours back at work, but you'll need a nap, so take it easy. I think I was back to "normal" about 8 weeks post-op.

I did have my period about a week AFTER the surgery (right on schedule, I might add), and it lasted for two weeks. Took about three cycles for it to right itself and I complained bitterly the whole time about having to use maxipads. Really do not like maxipads! But here's another tip - go out right now and buy yourself several pairs of grannypanties a size or two LARGER than you'd normally wear. You're not going to want ANYTHING rubbing against your incision, and you will be pretty bloated for about 3 weeks.

Oh - and for the first couple of days, you might want to have a small radio with you and some "idiot" magazines - like US and STAR. You're so out of it, it's impossible to read or concentrate. I think I read about Angelina Jolie's day out with Maddox about 8 times, and it was only a picture and 4 sentences and it was new each time. The radio was a Godsend - I couldn't concentrate on TV - it was like my eyes weren't registering or co-ordinating sound and picture, but for some reason I could easily lay back, close my eyes, and concentrate on the radio.

Good luck to you and post when you can!
So true- I knew from my previous c-section that the trick was to walk, walk, walk to get the gas passed and you would feel so much better. I've been slacking on the pain meds because I hate taking anything that causes me to feel out of it. But I'm about to pop an oxycodone/dine and go to bed because i'm going to work tomorrow (for 1/2 day).

failed myo

i went in for a myo last week and was told that they could not be removed due to the location. so the only option was to cut me and risk bleeding out and having to do a complete hysterectomy or do nothing and that was what she decided. so to say the least, i was very upset. it has been a week now and i have been on an emotional roller coaster. i am exhausted mentally and physically. my doctor wants to discuss my options after i heal, but im not interested. i have to believe that my uterus was left intact for a reason. Although I dont understand why we are going through this, I know that God has a plan in store for us. So in the meantime, my plan to relax and give my body time to heal and let God do the rest.

miraclenwait-thanks for the recovery info. you hit the nail on the head. be blessed.

Hi

I had a robotic laproscopic myomectomy on Dec 9th. Recovery has been interesting. Even with such tiny incisions, they removed 10 fibroids - the largest was the size of an 8 week pregnancy. Stool softeners were a god send and dealing with the gas was difficult. I am basically on tylenol right now but sometimes need to take an oxycodone in the morning. Walking does make me feel better but my energy level is up and down. They put me on iron suplements and told me that I really need to take it easy - which I have been doing. My period came a week after surgery and while the cramps hurt like hell, the flow was much better and no more spotting once it stopped.

I've been told we can start trying again in April and if we do IVF we'll need to do a hysterscopy first. I'm really hopeful that we can avoid IVF.....

Season's Greetings to All!!!!!

Yes, I went back on Monday the 21st - my procedure was the 15th. However, I only worked 1/2 days Mon/Tues and was off again for the holiday Wed-Mon. So today is my first full day back in the office.

Its been awhile since I last posted and for good reason, Im 8weeks pregnant. If you all remember my last post, I had a failed myo in December. When I returned for my follow-up, they offered additional infertility treatment and I declined. I had made up my mind that I was going to quit trying to fix it and put it in God's hands. So, yes, my fibroid is still there but both me and baby are doing well. Saw the heartbeat last week. That is a milestone for me because I never saw it with the other loses. All I can say is to stay encouraged and if you trust God, he will make a way. God bless you all.
