Mum - the nurse/midwife in my mom's group and my pediatrician said NO for sunscreen on babies. They said the best is barrier method, like SPF clothes. I'm sure there is probably conflicting information out there, so I'm not sure what is best. DH and I are pasty white and burn easily, so we wear SPF 100 anytime we are in the sun. For Ada, I bought some cute SPF rated clothes (and an awesome hat) from coolibar.com. Hat and sunglasses --

Mum, I am choosing between these two, I can't decide. Maybe the yellow and purple because it has more venting. But the blue looks like it will be darker and better for napping, ugh.. don't know. Amazon.com: Schylling Infant UV Play Shade: Toys & Games

Keep at it for the sleep training. It is so hard when all that will console them is the boob!!! We are starting to see that at bed time, it is really the only time that Fiona really cries, I had been trying so hard not to let her be dependent on the boob to sleep. I still have time to work on it, right??

Jillian, super cute photo! I had no idea about the sunscreen 1st time around and put some on Allison when she was only 2 months old.. woops...

Elena, good luck with the sleep training. It is so hard with another one in the house who will wake up.

Country, it sounds like things are adjusting so well with work and baby. You have been granted a lovely and easy baby. You are very lucky!! Best of luck with #2. We have a lesbian couple in our neighborhood that is starting the baby process and they just showed me the photo of the donor. I had no idea that donors submitted baby pictures of themselves... so cute! Did you get to see baby pictures of your donor? I think it is a great idea.

AFM: I have 2 mornings left of preschool for Allison. I will be so sad to see them go. At least my husband is not teaching this summer and will be flexible with is schedule. I have a feeling I will need to really structure my days better so that the 4 year old and I don't but heads too much.

Fiona is still pretty easy going and still is a champ overnight. we are spotty with naps, some days we get hardly any, then others we get a 2 hour nap. The only big issue is getting her to bed. She is getting dependent on the boob and it is not a good thing. She will feed, nod off, so she is woken when I burp her and if we try to put her down, she just cries and cries. she won't even take the pacifier. ugh! Anyway, she is waking now, but that is our issue now.

Oh.. and Drs... why are the babies not supposed to have sunscreen?

AAP - Summer Safety Tip Sheet

This is the AAP recommendation for sunscreen - use clothing/shade if at all possible. But okay to apply to small areas like face or backs of hands.

Had to share - So, I needed my extra clothes today, the pants specifically.
Why? Not because of a pumping mishap. Oh, no. It was because while in the ladies room I noticed that the crotch seam had totally come undone! Luckily it was just after 7 a.m. so no one had seen me yet. I had a thong on, so thank god I hadn't needed to bend over in front of anyone!
I like to think that the seam had come undone since I was wearing fat pants I bought 10 years ago, rather than the possibility that my fat pants can no longer contain my giant butt and thighs.
