I guess it's partly due to my miscarriages, but even my first son's name was chosen seven/eight years before he was conceived. Come on, anyone else?![]()

It's Jewish tradition to name a new born child after someone close to you who has passed. I chose first names after my grandmother Klara who was very dear to me. The middle mane will be after my husbands grandfather Abraham. So at the very least we've known what our child's initials will be for several years. I've had the names picked out for at least 2 years.

I love the name Abraham. Our chosen boy name is actually a derivative. =)
I'm glad I'm not the only one.

I had names I loved since I was a little girl but DH didn't like some of them! Same with some of his names. That made it hard.
I think the other problem I have now is my married name is very short. So, I feel like I need names with at least 2 syllables to make it sound right altogether. Names I love (Jack, Kate, etc.) are too choppy with last name.
Names are SO much harder than I thought!!!

I agree. But I think it occurs so that we make sure the right name gets chosen. I think of some of the names I've picked over the years that my poor children would be stuck with if I hadn't had to ponder and discuss...yikes! LOL

Very good point! It is true they have to live with this name forever so we should have to work a little bit to come up with a good one.

We've had our names picked out when we started pursuing IF treatments....4 years ago now.
I think its all part of the dreaming about being parents and having babies. You just can't help it. I still have the piece of paper with my handwriting--- writing the names over and over again at work the day before our first appt.

Chris and I had a baby girl name picked out before we even got married. The name is Molly Rose. The sweetest thing was the day of our six week U/S when we saw the heartbeat, Chris said, "If its a girl, I still want to name her Molly Rose". I melted. So we have our girls name.
A couple of years ago, I thought that if we ever had a boy I wanted to name him Isaac. It is a biblical name and for those of you that know the story, Abraham and Sarah tried for years to have a baby and they couldn't. They were up in age and God told them they would have a son. Sarah laughed, but not for long. A year later they had a son, and they named him Isaac. I am not "up in age" at 35 but we tried for years and it seems right. So our baby boy name is Isaac Lee.

My husband and I had the name Alex picked out for 7 years before we had him. We love that name and kept it. The other two we picked out the day we found out we were having all boys.
