Gotta run to try to get Tommy to nap. But, Mum, I think your nap limit idea sounds extremely good. I think it Toby is sleeping a total of enough hours a day and is growing and etc there is no reason to worry medically. you just need to convince him to be on a better schedule.

Thanks for starting the new thread!
Last night Toby was awake solid 10pm-3am. Horrible. E, you're right - it's good that the total sleep is okay, so we'll try the schedule for now, but it may be difficult to "get at" that middle of the night window. It would almost be easier if his awake time was at the start or end of the night.
Grape don't even worry at all about the suggestion - you may be onto something. After 5 nights of 4-5 hrs crying, today the sleep consultant said that is absolutely not normal or really okay. She thinks there is some sort of neurological or hormonal imbalance. So, next step is to take him to a sleep clinic at the hospital (appt is next Tuesday), but in the meantime we will also try baby acupuncture.
I'm delirious. My hands shake non-stop and it took me a good five minutes today to multiple 2.5 times 8. It was REALLY hard math for me.Me - PCOS, DH - Perfect
3 cycles clomid then 4 cycles follistim IUI = all BFN. IVF finally worked!

wow, acupuncture! Fiona is so fidgety, I could not even imagine. I have a friend who swears by her chiropractor.
So sorry about the 'not normal' diagnosis, it can only be so comforting to know you are not crazy. I do hope that there are some answers soonme 39 , DH 40

I know, I can't imagine how they put needles in a squirmy baby! Although Toby's been so limp the past few days. My mom said she definitely has found he is much more lethargic and a bit sensitive - whimpering quickly if we move him too quickly or put him down too fast - which he was never like before. But maybe the one positive benefit is it makes acupuncture easier...
Totally agree - every time a baby nurse says "wow, I haven't seen this before" or now the sleep consultant identified this as a very rare case, it makes me feel like I'm a bit less of a neurotic mom and you really do have to follow your instinct on this one. My babysitter says she definitely called this from the beginning. She met him when he was 8 weeks old, and she says matter-of-factly "we've always known he's not normal". But, she says it in the nicest way. She's seriously incredibly patient and almost as excited as I am to get this fixed!
He's asleep now. He had textbook perfect naps today then passed out at 7:15pm while nursing, as he has every other night this weekend. So now the waiting game begins.
In other news...I'm preparing for our trip to the beach in a few weeks. Mull, I bought one of the sun tents you recommended! Now I'm thinking of getting some sort of float for the pool that he could sit in - preferably with a shade I guess since the pool is fully in the sun. Anyone have any thoughts/recommendations?Me - PCOS, DH - Perfect

Mum-- I'm really sorry. I hope they can find something out at the sleep lab. The "getting at" the middle of the night is indeed really difficult. Almost wonder whether you'd need to keep him awake for a long time and gradually shift the whole clock or something. I don't know. I will try to look up sleep disorders in infants and see if there is anything else I can find out.

Mum, I hope they find the problem, and it's easily solvable. Your description of the changes in Toby's personality broke my heart. I know you want your happy little boy back.
And the pool will definitely help! We just got back from a weekend at the beach. I bought a baby floaty thing from Toys 'r' Us and forgot to bring it, so I picked up the only thing I could find there - an inflatable crab floaty for ages 8 months and up at Rite Aid. It worked fine, and Zoe really liked my Mom's neighborhood pool.
Our weekend was fun...pool, boardwalk, beach, lots of family in town, aunts and uncles and cousins and grandmas all over Z, ice cream...

Oh, any recommendations? Zoe STILL hates being on her tummy. Her neck support is excellent, and she's even trying to sit up, but I can't get her to do tummy time, and she can do only the weakest pushup. I even got this item: Biddy Belly, but she hates it. She rolled over from back to stomach one time, and she often rolls to the side. I just see no point keeping her on her stomach if all she does is cry. Suggestions?
