Have any of you already done this? Any special tricks that I should know about? Did the vaccinations affect your kids, or did all go smoothly?Kristen

Sara went to her check a couple of days after her b-day. She got three shots, would have been 5, but we skipped the chicken pox (on my request will do this one at 18 mo or 2yr visit) and flu vaccinations. She cried big tears
, but overall settled quicker than when she was younger. Don't really know any tricks for this one, and distractions will just not be enough for most kids to get their mind off the pain while it's happening. Maybe having their favorite snack/drink right after will help? Sara had a slight fever afterwards, but was back to normal the following day. Good luck . Let us know how it goes.

Oh man... Ian had to have 2.. cause one shot he had in the hospital... the last one he cried... I can not remember which one.. but the RN said that for some reason it seems to burn.. We just gave him tylenol before they came in with the shots and let him drink his milk during and then after he stopped crying.
Tylenol being for the temp.. Ian gets bad temps with his shots. Good Luck!

It is the MMR shot that does the burning. There is not much they can do about it though some vaccines give a more burning sensation than others. With both the MMR and chickenpox vaccines, you could see a rash develop up to weeks later. This is normal.
For all vaccines, I always give DD tylenol every 4 hours (unless she is sleeping) for a 24 hour period after the shots. After her 1 yr old shots, she was a little more feverish and tired than with other shots she had before. |

Thanks everybody. I gave Sylvie some Tylenol before the shots, and I plan to keep giving it to her at least through today. She didn't like the shots (of course), but she hasn't yet developed any irritability/tiredness/fever. She's playing right now! I hope for her sake that she keeps up the good playing!
