Proud of DH- and hope for those with high or borderline high cholesterol

DH was found to have borderline high cholesterol in Dec of 2003. It was in the 220's. His HDL (good cholesterol) was good and but his LDL was a bit too high (the bad cholesterol). He is extremely thin and very, very, very active. High cholesterol runs rampant in his father's side of the family. DH made many changes and had it rechecked 6 months later. It was virtually unchanged- actually was now 231.... but the breakdown was almost exactly the same. He was REALLY discouraged and sort of chalked it up to the bad genes. He said he wasn't going to do it anymore, but for some reason stuck to his changes anyway.... He just had a physical and got the results back last week ...... and it has REALLY improved! SOooo... I guess the key is LONG term changes! I have the #'s at home but here is what I remember..... his total is now 203. his LDL is completely normal range (higher normal, but normal nonetheless)... HDL is REALLY very good, Triglycerides are also GREAT. I went and thanked the dietician I work with today who gave us so much good information and tips when he was originally found to have the borderline high. Oh, and also... his risk profile for heart disease is 3.1!! (5 and over is consider increased risk for men).... woohoooo DH!

Awesome! I'll have to share this with my Dh since he really thinks it's only genetic and hasn't done much to change his diet. Oh, wait, he cut out whole milk from his daily cereal, but still eats fast food

Hey, that's wonderful! Dare I say it--your DH deserves a little treat!

Way to go Eli's dh!!!!! That's no easy task as I can attest to the crappy no cholesterol diet, except I've had some help with medication to bring mine down. I don't think I could be disciplined enought to do it by diet only.
